What are the advantages of having a sump? My tank is an in-wall setup with no room beneath tank (sits flat) I do have a room behind tank so if a sump is need what would be my best setup option? Thanx for your advice!!
no, but everything is just about in place. I have a 125 gal tank w/ lifereef hsv-24 skimmer, southdown sand and plenty of fiji rock. Still deciding on lighting
Same here. They have the potential to cause problems. That being said, I bet there's many people on this board who have never had problems with them.
If you decide to get one, consider a fish tank as a sump...the bigger, the better. I have an AquaC skimmer in my 55g sump (which is just a 55g fish tank), along with a refugium.
As a general rule, the more water volume, the more stable the tank...and obviously a sump gives you more water volume. A sump is also good for water top-offs and adding supplementals.
Get light on the Live rock ASAP! Even a little bit! All the things on the rock that need light are dying right now, and all the biological processes that require photosyntheses, light cycle, etc. are really not going to start until they see the sun... The more light you have on now, the more will live, and the smaller algea bloom you will have later. You have a great skimmer too, so you should be fine...
