What are the advantages of having a sump? My tank is an in-wall setup with no room beneath tank (sits flat) I do have a room behind tank so if a sump is need what would be my best setup option? Thanx for your advice!!

Sumps are great because they give you room to work and extra room for bigger equipment.

In sump skimmers work way better than hang on ones in my opinion.

You can have a sump in the room behind your tank no problem. Is the tank already set up and running?

no, but everything is just about in place. I have a 125 gal tank w/ lifereef hsv-24 skimmer, southdown sand and plenty of fiji rock. Still deciding on lighting

Well the thing is, it's kind of hard to add a sump to a tank that is not drilled for one.

You can use overflowboxes, but I prefer not too.

Same here. They have the potential to cause problems. That being said, I bet there's many people on this board who have never had problems with them.

If you decide to get one, consider a fish tank as a sump...the bigger, the better. I have an AquaC skimmer in my 55g sump (which is just a 55g fish tank), along with a refugium.

As a general rule, the more water volume, the more stable the tank...and obviously a sump gives you more water volume. A sump is also good for water top-offs and adding supplementals.

Good luck!

Get light on the Live rock ASAP! Even a little bit! All the things on the rock that need light are dying right now, and all the biological processes that require photosyntheses, light cycle, etc. are really not going to start until they see the sun... The more light you have on now, the more will live, and the smaller algea bloom you will have later. You have a great skimmer too, so you should be fine...

Oh yeah, sumps are great. Get one! :D
