Where is the option for a forum dedicated to red mantis shrimp? If I'm looking for mantis info I don't want to be bothered by having to search through a bunch of info about the green or brown ones. ;)

Interesting...so far there's 14 members out of 21 polled that would be interested in a forum like this...

Why would anyone vote no?? Seems kinda rediculous.

B.

Hows it rediculous?

I voted no, cause I'm not interested in one. Hows that rediculous?

The question asked, who would be interested in one, and if your not interested in one, then why would you say yes???

Due to the popular consensus of the poll, Reefs.org will be starting a Mantis Shrimp Forum shortly. It will be up to our members that want this forum to make it successful. Should the forum not receive enough traffic, we may close it a few months down the line, so it is up to everyone to make the forum a success. Initially, we will have the RDO staff and TF staff mod the forum but down the road if there are 1-2 'shining stars' that are really helping people out, we will potentially (upon review) make them official moderators of the forum. How's that sound? :)

Give us a couple days to get the forum up and running. In the mean time, you guys/gals that want the forum will need to formulate some plans to make it a success -- how to generate readership and helping people out that post there. Feel free to PM either myself or Len with ideas you might have to generate traffic and interest in this forum.

Thanks for the suggestion and enjoy! Either I or Len will post to this thread once the forum is up and running. 8)

Shane and Len,

That's great to hear. Having been a Mantis Shrimp owner for exactly 46 hours, it's nice to know that my growth of knowledge and experience with it, will coincide with the creation of this forum.

Thanks again, guys. :D

Sweetness! I intend to learn as much as my eyes can bear about stomatopods! I was readin about their eyes on that link that was given before, and I can thouroughly say that Im now a believer in the Mantis Awsomeness!!!! Incredible! I think Im gonna start one up within the next month or so! A mantis tank, that is--not a mantis eye ball.
How do sites like RDO and other forums adverstise to people on the net in general? How do you capture the attention of just casual surfers? We need more people in this industry (though not too much more; its pretty close to its perfect equilibrium in terms of supply and demand, in my opinion!) so that a new market base can grow for specialized sections of this awsome hobby! Think of the gains, the rewards! Not just to those who want to start a mantis tank or an aquarium, but those who would learn of the world of marine biology and ecology, on all levels; grade school and high school students, colleges, research facilities (ala' United Devices Cancer research computer-deal [of which I am a part! Like 8,000 points and counting!]), and the basic enlightening of the general public!
Man, what a great idea; commerce and industry merge with education in the most interesting and coolest of ways! Superb! [W00t!]

While we're getting things setup, maybe a couple of you might want to get a FAQ together or a basic mantis shrimp tank setup written or a bunch of links together on stomapods? That might be something good to have stickied at the top of the forum when it's created. Feel free to PM or email each other and go nuts. :)

I talked to Len a couple minutes ago and the forum should be created either Sunday or Monday night so be looking forward to starting the week out with a new forum. :)

In the mean time, also check out this month's issue of Advanced Aquarist (shameless plug). http://www.advancedaquarist.com/

Pretty much by either word of mouth or via them finding us from a search engine like Google or Yahoo. Some people might also find out about us at various conferences like IMAC ( http://www.theimac.org/ ) or MACNA ( http://www.macna.org/ ) or from MASNA ( http://www.masna.org/ ).
