As stated by nano, I think anything under 50 gallons is a nano. Nano doesn't necessarily mean it should be harder to care for. I've seen 10 gallon nanos that are immaculent. Why? Because some people that keep nano reef tanks have good husbandry skills sufficient enough to allow their livestock to thrive. Nothings impossible it just gets frustrating when you start doubting yourself. IMO I also think that tank volume should be determined by what the main display tank is in volume only. Not by incorporating fuges as the total volume. They are just for filtration purposes. JMO

if that's the case can I set up a 15 gallon plumbed into my current tank?
these are things that need to be determined. :scratchch

hmm...

Well I don't think it can be called a nano if it is just part of a huge system... but I think exceptions can be made for sumps up to a certain volume. I think this should be split into two parts - tank and then sump.

Tank size really shouldn't be more than 30g IMO... but then I could see a 20g sump on a 30g tank and it still being a 'nano' though on the large size.

So maybe 30g max size, w/ up to 50g total volume?

Or there can be two contests- one for true nanos (I would say anything less than 30g total volume) and one for small tanks w/ sumps.
