Getting ready to set back up again, need a good supplier of LR...

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

I haven't seen anything great locally although Pacific East Aquaculture would be a tempting daytrip... :)

As for mail-order - I've only tried Fiji rock from Premium Aquatics (on several occasions) and it's been good each time although IMO the quality of Fiji rock has gone downhill in general over the past 5+ years.

check out www.liverocks.com
this guy is 10 minutes from my house. i go there and pick out whatever rock i want. its all harvested from the gulf and down from the keys. some really nice pieces and its only like four dollars and change per pound. he has gulf rock and keys rock. the keys is a little more expensive though but still under $5.00 a pound. not bad! beats any LFS prices. i'll try to post some pics of my tank to show you the rock. all my rock is from him.

I just got an order of figi from premium aquatics a few months ago, they had a note on their website that people have not been pleased with it lately or something, I ordered anyway.

I was happy with the rock because it is very very light and interesting shapes, but I have not found one little zoanthid or anything of interest besides coralline on it so far, unlike past orders of figi.

I just recieved my www.tampabaysaltwater.com LR a couple of weeks ago, here is a link to some of my pictures(near the bottom of the page, first LR is from a different source).

I'm extremely happy with the size, shape and weight and hitchhikers on the rock. It is just expensive at around $7/lb including shipping.

Yep, but they are having a difficult time diving in the gulf of mexico, they probably won't have rock for weeks, maybe even months. They have their Keys rock which is good, but I think the gulf rock is better.

It would be a cool place to check out though, wish I was 20 mins from them!

We just got another 25 lbs of LR from www.liverocks.com (Triton Marine). We drove up and got another load, yesterday. Mike is a great guy and has done well by us. The Gulf rock from either liverocks or Tampa Bay Saltwater has more corals and such; the Keys rock has more coraline. Some great colors!

Unfortunately, right now Gulf rock is not available. The area is having a severe outbreak of red tide--an algae bloom in the Gulf of Mexico that pretty much kills everything. Most of the guys' aquaculture farms have either been wiped out or in dire straits. Who knows when Gulf rock will be ok.

The Keys rock seems somewhat lighter. It's a little more expensive, but has some really beautiful coraline on it. Eventually we'll have enough.

Either source is great. As I've been told that Pacific LR is going up even more--most stores here in SW Florida are close to $10/lb, so the future for us cheapskates is in home-grown.

Wayne

ps--if you make the trip to Triton Marine, go a couple more miles to the sponge docks. The gyros are worth the whole trip! (Mmmm, gyros.)
