Have you tried Jeffs (Tropical Fish World) I can probably find out the source but not sure if he'd like me telling, or (Fish Pro's), I know Cindy there also and my mother inlaw used to work for her mother who owns that store and a old one here that was called (Pets Unlimited) then she sold it to (Vets for Pets) I know most of their sources

but dont want to post them publicly

Jeff just moved his store to a new location I hear and I have a friend wanting me to help him set up a store with about 100 of jeffs tanks he bought from him, I actualy have several from his coral system also

Knowes, mabey it is just for certified organic greenhouses I dont know, but will check, and could be wrong but thats what I remember.

knowes,
I was wrong, it is 3 years..still a long time to me, if you use a certified organic medium it can be done without the wait, but there is a three year transition period for soil

Been thinking about this one for a while now.

Most organic growers have/had been doing so for years, so that when they do decide to certify, the process is much faster. Most USDA certified growers were previously certified threw other organizations with much stricter standards so getting the "USDA" label was pretty much a no brainer. Other than your average gardiner, not very many big growers just "decide" to go organic. And when then do, it's just to jump on the organic bandwagon for a quick profit as it is a fast growing market.

I would think that if the land has been fallow for 3-5 years, then certification would also be easier. Of course, you'd have to prove that the ground was fallow, but that shouldn't be to hard to do.

But to get back on topic somewhat.... there seems to be a new concern growing in Hawaii. Clorox fishing.

Mahai, juicing in Florida is done with a seditive, that I can't remember the name of right now. But the effects are just about the same as cyanide.

It's a shame that Cortez Marine (Bay Area importer/wholesaler) is not run by Steve anymore. They used to get net caught fish exclusively. Not sure if that's still the case.

I know he works with Aquatic Specialties and Pets now (another local imp/whole.) but I'm uncertain if they've put enough pressure, and /or training out there to get 100% net-caught fish.

He's trained a lot of divers though.

I am aware of it, and try to buy responsibly. Sometimes it is hard to know which suppliers are trustworthy.

Righty-

Where did you get that crazy avatar? Is that you? Is it for real?

Its me, with a dying octopus on my head. It was in Tonga, and I did it to show some locals that they had nothing to fear from Octos.

Hope the locals were sharp enough to understand the part about the dying...

Quinaldine.

An interesting second-hand tidbit I heard about quin recently: A number of long-time Quin collectors developed testicular cancer, and people were pointing to Quinaldine as being the cause. May be all hearsay...

I havent read this whole thread but you'd pretty much have to be under a rock, or never bothered to read or research this hobby at all to be completely ignorant about cyanide collecting.
It's only been going on for decades....
