It's 38" to the bottom. I was going to go with 36" but at the last moment I decided on add a couple more. I'm glad I did.

Wish I could go back and add a few inches. Wait...what was the topic?

I hope you haven't already purchased the Mag for the closed loop. I originally setup my 40g breeder with a Mag 7 for the closed loop and could never get it to quit leaking. They have a pretty bad reputation for leaking when you run them externally.

I ended up switching to an Ehiem pump. It was a little more expensive and a lot quieter and best of all it has never leaked a drop.

I also drilled the back of mine for the intake and then dropped the returns over the top. My scwd quit working within a couple months on the closed loop but the one on my return is working fine still a year and a half later.

Here's some old pictures of my setup if you are interested.

Have fun!

You need to figure out what kind of rockscape you're going to end up with in order to really plan your closed loop. It's going to come down to aquascaping around your closed loop, or setting your closed loop around your aquascape. :)

I've been thinking about that and it's been making me think of doing some homade rock. Since this is a smaller tank it might be a good way to get in to it.

Looks nice, I also built my 40 breeder stand and was going to add a door to it. That was 4 months ago....still need to do it. So little time is right. :D

FWIW, I use a CL on my 40 breeder and used a 1200 GPH PanWorld for the pump. This combo worked pretty decent but I think I could have gone to a biger pump.

OK, so here's the canopy skeleton. Gonna skin it like the stand with 1/4" oak ply and have one big door in the front that opens up.

I wanted a really light canopy this time and I think I've got it. :)

Thanks, Wazz. I am in the process of plumbing the sump now. Not sure what I want to do for the doors on the stand and in the canopy but they can wait. I want to get water pumping through this suckah. :)

I still need to pick a sump. I can't fit a 20 long in the stand so I was thinking a 20 high or a 15. Whattya think?

Well, here are couple more pics. Yes I'm slow but I want to take my time and try and not screw up. :)

Friday or Monday the sump will be done. I should be testing the system by the middle of next week. I hope.

OK, here are two more pics of the completed plumbing. Before I commit this setup in stone by gluing is there anything you see here that might be a problem?

I am a bit concerned with the output of the pump with the angles that I have now? Is it going to be a problem?

Thanks!

By the way, just waiting on the glass place to have my baffles cut. Those are next in the puzzle.

One suggestion I would make is to leave the section of the drain below the union unglued. The union just above the sump. I just noticed you have two in the drain line. It is not under pressure and even if it drips it will be in the sump. This is for just incase you need to mod that part of the line. The rest looks straight forward enough.

Hey Wazz, when I place the baffles how much room do I need for the drain section? The reason I ask is because the plan is to have the center portion of the sump be a refugium. It's a 20H and there is not a lot of real estate.
