Thanks for the offer, Bry, but I'm itching to get water flowing in the tank.

I wonder if that would be OK to modify. It's molded, small, and I can cut some teeth in to it.

Why not, I use anything laying around, even if its the wife's good turkey baster.......

I'm planning a similar overflow design, but am wondering if it is necessary to add the elbow pointing down on the inside of the tank? I will have the 2 bulkheads enclosed by a skimmer box, made out of black acrylic, with teeth skimming the surface etc. If I do not add the elbow on the inside of the skimmer box, what will be the conseqences (not being a true durso design) More noise, more air in the sump?
Thanks...[/i]

You need two PVC Caps, the smaller one just big enough to cover your bulkhead fitting, the larger one big enough to cover that and reach up high enough to get the level you want in the tank.
Cut half of the inside one off, the bottom half
Cut slots in the outer one, or just cut off the top
There you have it, completely HDgetto'd out by knucklehead....

I don't think that would look ghetto at all. Quite elegant actually. The outside cap could be ABS, and you could use PVC pipe (rather than a cap) for the inside part. Then you could easily remove it for cleaning.
