And you can't ban me for thinking someone is an idiot.

I am still battling the ammonia- I'm Sorry I didn't answer the posts- this site doesn't notify me when I get a reply despite the fact that the box is checked!
Skylab- I have been running my reef for 3 yrs., and this is the first time I've had a problem in the QT with ammonia. I use an Aquaclear 50 (has 2 sponges) which is good for a 20-50 gal tank (mine is 20 gal). I use the reef tank for water changes, as I feel it is more stable. When I do large water changes only from fresh mixed salt, I seem to have more alk. and ph swings. Also, this is the water he will eventually go into. I don't think of it as"old" water, but as the environement that my corals and fishes thrive and grow in.
I thought I had the prob. solved a number of days ago, as the ammonia in the water with the fresh brine being the culprit- alas that was not it. I continue to do the water changes-50%, pain in the butt, every day.

Hopefully the ammonia is continuing to go down.

I do have a question on the operation of your QT, mainly because I don't run one.

Did you keep this up for awhile (i think so) before adding the tang?

And did you keep some bioload (like a molly for instance) before adding the tang?

Just wondering.

I have been instructed not to call you names, not to call you an idiot, not to ask you where you pull your ideas out of or anything of that nature.

Even though I am not allowed to do any of those things, I just want you to know I am thinking them....

OH YEAH BABY, I'm A thinkIN!!!!

This post serves no purpose other than to generate animosity and sidetrack the thread. I've asked you privately to stop doing this sort of thing and now I'm telling you publicly. If you can't express yourself without using words like "stupid" and "idiot" please refrain from posting.

My concern is that you have added a large fish load and therefore exceeded the QT's capability of handling that load. Which resulted in a cycle.

You might try feeding live macro algae. That way the food not eaten will help reduce the cycle instead of adding to it.

Problem is Regals won't eat macro.

edit: oh, this is a Regal Tang, not an Regal angel, right?

I never called anyone an idiot or stupid in this post.

So I obeyed you

If you can't understand that then ban me.

KH, Chris is right. That post he highlighted had no constructive merit and was way off topic. Now back to the topic please.

Now back to the topic.

I am going over to his side now, my advice on this board from now on will be the following --- and to be clear this will cover any type of problem with any aquarium--- Add macros, get the plant life going and stop doing all water changes.

Would that be better?

Cause I could start giving out that kind of advice if you want...

No one is asking you to take his side. Debate anything you want. Just do it civilly. That's all we are asking of you and any of our members. Frankly, I'm baffled by your conclusion and behavior. I think the admins have been very courteous and professional with you.

If you want to continue this discussion, PM me.

You of all people should know how I don't like the pm thing.

I am hereby giving myself a 24 hour break from this site while I debate the benefits of having a no water change all plant reef tank.

When I get back I will put my conclusions in a new thread so as not to take this one off track any more. I am sure you all will wait with baited breath.

Sorry Dawn, I really didn't mean to drag your thread down....

At this point i think that doing water changes is not going to help your ammonia problem. There is something else going on in your tank. If it is cycling , doing a water change will only prolong the cycle period.

Why is that? That has never been my experience.
