Apparently the producers were visiting today to possibly do a theme show at the aquarium. They're literally right around the corner from us here in SF.

Some of the ones we came up with were:

"You can kill a goldfish by overfeeding it"
"Peeing on a jellyfish wound will alleviate the pain"
"Humans can float in super salty water"

I need all your creative juices working folks...let's hear 'em!

I think the second one is worth talking about, although going to Monterey would be better as far as aquariums and jellies are concerned.

First one? eh.. who cares.. last one? humans can float in freshwater so again no brainer raise the density of water of course they're going to float still.

They've done to death some of the common ones though, punching a shark in the nose, goldfish having memories that last a few seconds, etc. Its late, I'm tired, so I have no juices to create with sorry :)

And yeah the place where they do their show M5 effects, is literally a 5 minute drive from me, I don't want to be an autograph seeker though and swing by screaming hi or anything though :D

Single drop of blood - piranha/shark.
You can't talk loudly while fishing or they won't bite.

It seems like about 90% of the show is the fun of watching them rig up equipment on the fly. Of course I know humans float in saltwater already. But it's still fun to watch. :D

Hey, did you catch the one where they did it with quicksand? They basically made a gigantic fluidized bed filter and then jumped in. They could have used a fish geek consultant on that one.

How about the whole fish (goldfish) have a 3,5 second memory bit?

How about the one where a fish will only grow as big as its home? Surprising how many people still believe that 8O

Can a drunk frat boy actually eat 50 goldfish, and regurgitate them up alive.

This one's true. I actually floated in the Dead Sea reading a magazine.

That's a good one - and are tangs actually forgetful (think Finding Nemo)?

Matt..the floating in salt water thing is not, nor was it ever a myth.

There is a myth that if you lick and electric eel while in a puddle with that eel, it hurts.

Seriously, years ago a brought a young Qeensland Grouper, Epinephelus lanceolatus in to donate to Steinhart. I was given a tour by the curator at the time, and he told me that E. lanceolatus grew to 21' long, 2250lbs, and was known to swallow divers. I'm skeptical about that measurement quite frankly, but they do get HUGE.

While talking to the guy on the walk behind the main, large tanks, I absent mindedly had my finger in one of the tanks. After a minute I looked, and there was an 8' Alligator gar snout 2" from my finger. 8O

Both myths sound like good ones for Adam - no Buster!

PS...Given the swallowing capacity of a 12" Qeensland which I have personaly witnessed, and if you extrapolate that to even an 8' specimen, I think it's more than possible.

I want to specifically state that I know humans float in saltwater. It's the proving it part that makes the show. A lot of people think this might be a myth. That makes it a myth, doesn't it?

There is a myth that if you lick and electric eel while in a puddle with that eel, it hurts.

Well, that's a tricky one. If you were to somehow lick an electric eel it likely would require you to have it hold still somehow. It could very well zap you in the process out of fear. Am I missing something?

Oooo, that gives me an idea. "Giant clams capture and kill divers!"

Having not read the thread:

Giant clams catching divers feet
Jonah and the whale (which is really supposed to be a big fish)
Touching a coral will kill it
Overfeeding fish will kill them
Coral grows slowly
Watching a fish tank relaxes you
Fish is brain food
Lion fish stings will kill you
Blue ring octos will kill you

Brain dry...
