i like the ASM skimmers. the G4X i have is awesome. i think i'll look for another g1 or so.

So what would you guys recommend instead of a remora for a good HOT skimmer that isn't insanely loud? I have had one of these running for a couple weeks on my 20H. While it makes decent skimmate, it sounds like a Saturn V rocket!

mine doesn't even make good skimmate, adjusted a half inch from the top.
you are going to have a problem with something hanging in the tank. i like the aqua medic turbofloater. but yopu'll have a big pump in the tank.

I found this little modification and used it on my Remora Nano. It's still not silent by any means, but it's a definite improvement and didn't cost anything.

Mine did get quieter. Not by a huge amount but after a month or so the difference was noticeable. Once a biofilm (slime) develops on the inside of the skimmer it has a dampening effect. You can still hear it for sure but I think the sound dropped by around 20-30%.

Meanwhile, mine, although quieter, is still incredibly loud. The skimmate produced is not what I expected either and does not have a horrible smell like the skimmate from the ASM. :?
