Aqua C Remora?

I have seen a few people on here talk about these skimmers and was wondering if they are any good.

I have a 29g tall.

Aqua C Remora Protein Skimmer Features:
For tanks up to 75 gallons
Dimensions:
-Skimmer Height: 17.5"
-Minimum Tank Height: 12.75"
-Minimum Overhead Clearance for Proper Function: 5.5"
-Depth: 2.75"
-Width: 6"
-Drain fittings (for the units with drain fittings) have 5/8" hose barb connections
Pump included (you can choose either the Rio 800 or Maxi-Jet 1200 pump)
For hang-on use only.
Along with the pump, standard equipment includes an adjustable collection cup, and a special baffle system which prevents any bubbles from entering the aquarium.

This will be good right?

I have both a Remora and a Remora Pro and am happy with both. Some have had problems with poor skimming, though I do not know why.

Another option for you in that price range is the Tunze Nano 9002. I have one of those on a 29g seahorse tank and it skims great as well. Some feel that it is better than the Remora? In general Tunze has a very good reputation so I'd recommend giving the 9002 a look as well.

One factor to consider is noise. The Remoras are noiser but do quiet down a bit over time. The Tunze is silent!

the remora is the best HOT skimmer you can get for that price IMO. The only one that is suppose to outclass it is the Deltec.. but it certainly ISN'T in that price range.

I ran one for a few years and was very happy.

I've run the aqua c remora for years and have been happy with it; I've had success with the reef tank and it is the only filter I use, other than a filter sock for a few days now and then, HTH

I have been running a Remora for a while and I'm not that impressed with it. It skims ok for the size skimmer, but doesn't seem to pull any more than comparably sized skimmers. Its also on the loud side for a small skimmer.

However, the plus sides are pretty affordable, they look cool, and they don't require too much clearance on the side of the tank.
But its nothing special IMO

Any one have experience with this skimmer...?
and does it release any bubbles into the tank (I have read the remora has a baffle system in it)?

I read a bunch of raving reviews, and bought one a year ago. I don't think they are very good, or I can't get it to work right (which means they aren't designed very good). I'd give it a C-. I'd give CPR a C+ for reference.

I agree with your score. However, I would give CPR a better score than yours if it have a better powerhead, FWIW.

Remoras work 'ok'. I have one that I used on several tanks in the past and it always put out watery skimmate unless I tinkered with the injection nozzle and the height of the collection cup constantly.

I can wholeheartedly reccommend the Tunze nano skimmer kicks posterior and very affordable for a piece of Tunze gear. Get the one with the optional preskimmer box / media chamber.

I have been using the Remora for 4 years and only had a problem with it once (it clogged). I did purchase the optional surface skimmer and that made the skimmer work even better. It is definately on the loud side however I have a heavy bio load currently in the system it is running on and I have no problems with waste in the tank. I say its a great skimmer for the money I use Aqua C on all of my other tanks and have good results.

From what it looks like the entire thing sits inside the tank.
Is that right?

I don’t have a sump so it has to hang on back with just the pump in the tank.

i guess. that kinda sucks though. taking up valuable space. hmm. if you go with the remora, the mj12 is all that sits in the tank, however, they are loud, and i have had no luck with the microbubbles entering the display. i even bought the surface skimmer box.

Anything more I can add to the list?

Tunze- Sits inside tank (to big).
Deltec- $$$ do I need to say more.

I think my CPR backpack with rio 800 is better than my aqua C remora with maxijet.

well, if you end up going that route (i'd still suggest against it) i'll have one for sale shortly.
have you thought anything of a stand alone unit. something that is fed by a pump and returns water to the tank through piping?

Nope I have not. Ill look into it :wink: .

If you know of anything in the $200 or less range and can fit in a space 23in. tall that be great .
