So after about a year of deliberation, I finally decided to bite the bullet and get a non-nano this time. To give you a little background about myself, I started reefing in 1990 with a leftover 10 gallon that Len gave me with a state of the art Skilter. Damn him.

Anyways, on order is a 200g (62" x 31" x 24" H) tank from Aquarium Obsessed. Stand and canopy just came in from a custom cabinet maker. I plan on keeping only SPS, inverts, and fish. Tank will be lit by 2 lumenarcs, supplemented by VHO's, circulated by Vortech, and skimmed by Deltec.

Enjoy the pics and please be patient! :D

Had to pick up the stand and canopy myself using a Uhaul and some friends.

I forgot to mention the details of the stand and canopy:

40" stand
20" canopy
cherry wood
dark cherry stain
molding
Euro hinges

Now for a shot of the canopy (excuse the mess and disregard the piece of wood at the bottom):

Last one for now. This is a pseudo-macro of the cherry grain:

40" is a real nice height. It requires a ladder to work, but the no bending over to admire the tank is well worth it.

yep, that thing is a beautiful piece of furniture.
do you think you'll get any shadowing with 2 lumenarcs and a 62 inch tank? you'll run the VHO's all day?

I can't believe i missed your posted pictures. Stand and canopy look really nice. Get some shots of the doors opened. I think with the canopy doors that big, you won't have a problem accessing inside the tank.

I like how everyone is just sorta standing around and watching you handle the massive stand all by yourself.. lol. That cabinet and finish look great! Good luck with the tank!

Sorry for the late reply. Just came back from a week long vacation.

When I ordered the tank, AO said that there was a 8 week build time, so that puts me at about end of December, and then some time for shipping.

The regular (non-mini) lumenarcs are supposed to light a 3'x3' square pretty well, so I am hoping 31" x 31" will be fine. The distance from the bulb to water level is quite long - 16", so that definitely helps too. I am guessing that the upper corners of the tank will not be lit as well but nothing bothersome. I am thinking a 8 hr VHO / 6 hr halide photoperiod.

BTW, I'm ignoring all pic requests from Len. :)

I have to agree that the stand and canopy are beautiful. I'm really looking forward to more pictures and this build in general. And thank you for not taking in the footsteps of Len and sharing your experience and hobby with us. :)

Tank is here. Woohoo!

FedEx freight came very quickly: 5 days from Toronto to California. Weight was a staggering 570 lbs but I hope a good chunk of that is the crate. I can't even imagine how much Sanjay's tank weighed.

FedEx guy: What is this?
Me: Uh... an aquarium
FedEx guy: Seriously?
Me: Yup
FedEx guy: How big is it?
Me: 200 gallons
FedEx guy: (smiles) I have a 150 at home

He was nice enough to stick around and make sure that the tank had no damage after opening it. Will post more pics once I move it onto the stand!
