Just wanted to share. I have had two Fire Shrimp purchased months apart from each other for about one year. Although they always "got along" I never realized that they paired up. Last week I saw a collection of orange eggs on the underside of one of them. Last night while viewing the tank with the moon lights on I observed the shrimp go towards the surface of the water on a piece of tonga branch. It proceeded to flutter its pleopods and releas a couple hundred live baby shrimp (would they be called fry?). The tank is not set up to rear the young and do not expect them to survive. I think they may have had a chance at survival if they cling onto any surface but instead they just flow with the current and expect them all to be filtered.

Oh, what luck! Now that you have a known, mated pair, you could probably find a way to gather up the eggs to try rearing in the future if you wished. Either way, though, they're not just living, they're thriving. :D

Do mated pairs ever get a divorce and stop mating?
When the got too old and sick of each others, yes. We usually say that they "fired each others," not that they "got into a divorce.";)

Seriously, I am not sure, but I *think* the female can store sperms for a few more "spawning" without the presence of the donator.

I thought they were hermaphrodites?

;) and you thought correctly. Here's an older article from AQ on rearing similar larvae...

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/ ... reeder.htm

I have great fun rearing peppermint shrimp from larvae to adult once upon a time and that article was of great help to me. If the OP wants further data specifically on fireshrimp, just run a google search on breeding these shrimp there is a ton of articles/posts etc out there.

:D Good luck!
