Phyl- I was at that lecture, very good info. I went home and adjusted my vortech to the top left about 4" from the top, and the flow was incredible. It goes from left straight across to the right then hits the glass goes down and back to the left side.good flow. great lecture.
Ronsternyc- why not just readjust the tunze to go with the flow as oppossed to against each other? you might like the flow better.
both on one side at first, then I put one on the left front and the other on the right rear. this gives both sides a circular flow that goes from top to bottom then back. In the middle where the flow meets, it swirls around. all this is evident when I feed flakes. I did this after the lecture held at the NJRC frag swap by adam.
have you considered the fact that the vortechs have a battery backup?
B
I have considered that too - it's one of the cons...
Note about the battery backup. The Vortech has its own plug on the drivers for the battery backup, which the 3 prong plug is not plugged into. This is how the Vortech knows its on backup mode and the colors on the drivers will change. I'm pretty sure the Vortech goes on a lower power mode when its on the backup.
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to plug it into a regular UPS, but it wouldn't operate on the lower power mode. I personally would just buy a UPS for the price
