Jake would be more inclined to recommend what you have now than what you've seen on YouTube. It would be interesting to see how your corals reacted to the change, but if it were me I'd leave them the way you have them!.

Phyl- I was at that lecture, very good info. I went home and adjusted my vortech to the top left about 4" from the top, and the flow was incredible. It goes from left straight across to the right then hits the glass goes down and back to the left side.good flow. great lecture.

Ronsternyc- why not just readjust the tunze to go with the flow as oppossed to against each other? you might like the flow better.

Alex - a little more info. do you have one on each side or both on the same side?

both on one side at first, then I put one on the left front and the other on the right rear. this gives both sides a circular flow that goes from top to bottom then back. In the middle where the flow meets, it swirls around. all this is evident when I feed flakes. I did this after the lecture held at the NJRC frag swap by adam.

Cool. So far this is exactly how I have them set up. Thanks man!

Cali, I was also told you could buy a PC back up at Radio Shack and it would work the same as the battery back up. So far, if they work the same I am more inclined to get them because of the less space the VorTech take and the fact that it seems much much easier to clean them as opposed to the entire unit. Imagine that...also that means no more magnets are visible. Tunze's are great products, however, they are not the best looking ones...

Note about the battery backup. The Vortech has its own plug on the drivers for the battery backup, which the 3 prong plug is not plugged into. This is how the Vortech knows its on backup mode and the colors on the drivers will change. I'm pretty sure the Vortech goes on a lower power mode when its on the backup.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to plug it into a regular UPS, but it wouldn't operate on the lower power mode. I personally would just buy a UPS for the price

I think VORTEC only runs on half speed in battery mode. With a AquaController III (or IIIPRO) and a AquaSurf, you can make your Tunze(s) run with a regular computer UPS in any speed between 30%-100% during a power outage, or have it pulse at different speed + different intervals, or run full speed for a specific period of time then slow down to conserve energy for those longer power out situations. Possibility are limitless.....:Yikes:

think about it though, half speed during power outages in the city is not bad...when was last time we had a power outage, besides the 2003...Even though the VorTech batter back up runs half speed, you still get juice anywhere between 24 to 48 ours, so I am told.
