Foam Background

So since I'm making a move to a 40g breeder (Thanks Don) I was thinking of going with a foam background as well as structure to place my LR on. I would build the basic shape i want to achieve out of eggcrate and zip ties and put the foam on very thin then place it in the tank.

I know this stuff floats, but I figure 30-40lbs of rock is enough to keep it sitting safely in the tank.

Couple of questions, how long does it take to cure?

How long would i have to wait before tranferring my existing stock into the new tank with foam?

Do I have to let it soak in FW first? Do i have to apply epoxy over it or is the foam alone good enough?

Kris if you going to do it, do it on some egg crate or some sort of backing that you can remove if you want to or when you take down the tank. I did mine roght on the glass and let it cure for a day but I didnlt put water in it for a while cuz I wasn't ready. But it does take a night a it should be good to go. Also tey an stick a could rocks in there to attach frags. SPS frags can just go right in the foam. And the foam picks up coraline mad quick. Good luck and take pics

Kris, I have some foam I got from Herman a while back, I never used it.

It's supposed to be some better kind of foam to work with, if you want to try it let me know.

Steveo, I was thinking of doing it on eggcrate just incase I didnt like the look.

Ronc, I like that idea a lot, but I dont think I'd be able to do that with LR. If I tried, I'd probably have more die off than my tnak could handle, being skimmerless and all.

inline, :lol2: I like the way you think, recycling the foam wouldnt be such a bad idea.

Kris, I believe the foam (it is made specifically for ponds and the like) is totally non toxic. Just be cautious when using it as it expands like crazy!

oh and its really sticky, use gloves. It gets all over the place and its hard to get off (wow that sounds completely filthy)
