OK, I now officially nominate this as the most bizarre Fedex experience ever.

Last Wednesday (12/26) I shipped 2 yellow tangs to a customer, for delivery Thursday. Around 5:00, my customer contacted me that order had not arrived (it was ground, so no problem yet). While checking, I see that Fedex indicates they just delivered. I email this fact back to my customer. He replies that he saw the Fedex truck go to his neighbor and leave. He checked with his neighbor, no package.

OK, we both initiate a complaint with Fedex, and a search for the missing package. This was Thursday evening, 12/27.

Nothing from Fedex Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday. Poor fishies.

Here's what I get from my customer on Wednesday afternoon:

"You will never guess what was delivered today? Yup the fish. My freind that live across the street took the box in because of the cold. She said that a car pulled in just before I got home and a man put the box on my front porch. She did not know the car or guy. Strange. The box looks like it was resealed. Also, did you put the fish in a zip lock bag? I have never gotten fish like this.

They seem to be good and are swimming around the tank.... I am going to call FedEx tomorrow and tell them about it."

Someone (Fedex employee???) had the fish for 6 days. Kept them alive somehow, then repacked them in ziplock bags and delivered them.

I wonder if I'll ever find out where these guys were for 6 days.

REALLY strange. My Fed-Ex guy is cool. I had fish delivered once and he said
"Yo, these are live!? Dude, here's my cell number. If you ever have a live delivery again just call me and let me know, I'll deliver to you first."

Yes.
The boxes themselves say live fish, and there is a live fish, handle with care label next to the fedex label.

But what are the odds that a driver (we know it made it on the truck) would want and have use for live saltwater fish, and be dumb enough to think that if he just kept them, nobody would know.

If I ever find out what happened, I'll be sure to finish this thread.

Another possibility - this has happened to me before but not with live goods - is that the package was delivered to the wrong address and just left at the door. When the recipient got the package and realized what it was, and that it was a mistake, he might have opened the bag and left them in a bucket or something until he had time to deliver them to the proper recipient - your customer.

I thought of that also, but 6 days in a bucket, no air, no filter, no heat, doesn't sound likely.

Def a mystery.

Michael did you call fedex and tell them what happened?
It's strange enough that they should want to figure it out also.
