X time ago I was in cleaning my tank. I didnt notice that my four arm was bumping the frogspawn. When got out of the tank I noticed a HUGE rash on my four arm- little dots the shape/size of the frogspawn heads. the itchy rash lasted three-four weeks.

Now I have done it again. I thought I was careful- but I got a little patch of it again. when I took my hand out of the tank I soaped and scrubbed but it didnt help. Does anyone know of a way to sooth the rash?

thanks

Next time don't rub, scratch, or otherwise mess with the sting, it will only make it worse and spread faster. The first step use vinegar to kill any remaining stinging cells clinging to your skin. Next, apply heat, either hot pack or warm water, to help break down the toxin. Finally, apply hydrocortisone cream (like a Benadryl Gel) as necessary to reduce inflamation.

those gloves are only good for picking up large pieces of rock, they are not sensitive enough to do anything else. I got them after getting nailed by some pallys. I used them once. I think they are surplus from a nuclear reactor supply company. that's how thick they feel ;)

Benadryl is an antihistamine, not a cortisone-type steroid. I would suggest the vinegar (or ammonia) asap to denature the poison...followed by the benadryl (or caladryl) cream, gel, or lotion. (My old allergist told me never to use topical benadryl...said it was a sensitizer.) You could also take a benadryl pill (or Rx type antihistamine known to be good for skin symptoms, like Zyrtec or hydroxyzine). Later on over the next few days is the time for a topical steroid. Non-Rx hydrocortisone is probably too mild. You'd be better off with an Rx type like Diprolene. Then again, I'm not a Dr........If you have an allergist or a dermatologist, give him/her a call.

The inside of my forearms seem to be the most sensitive place for sting. I've gotten nailed accidentally by my bubble tip anemone a couple of times. I've touched the tetacles with my hands without any effect but the insde of my wrists are another story!

After getting stung, I wash the area with soap and warm water taking care not to rub too hard and imbed the nemocysts any deeper. I've tried vinegar on BTA stings and it doesn't do anything for me, but perhaps it works for other types of stings. I then put hydrocortisone cream on the area or if it's really bad and driving me nuts I'll take a benadryl.
