Octopus skimmer which one is better?

I have a 120gal. FOWLR and looked at these skimmers which were recommended. Which type is suitable and recommended for my size tank. I love the in sump method but not sure exact model# since it appears there are 2 types either Reef Octopus PS 150 Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer* or Reef Octopus TS 150 Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer*

Why would you say that you don`t need a skimmer on a fowlr? A skimmer would help get rid of any undisolved organic`s in the water and keep the water cleaner, so in my opinion I would want that on my tank. As far as the choices I would go with the biggest skimmer I could fit and afford. I only say that because the company`s rating`s on most skimmer`s are over rated. If they say it is rated for a 120 gal I would use this on a 55-75gal. tank not a 120. This is just my experience good luck with your search....

i would get the new msx xtreme 200 from marine solutions....uses a sicce pump like the ATI skimmers....large neck,bubble plate ...cost about $350
this company was a octopus skimmer dealer until they came out with thier own line.they also have the octopus skimmers.

the msx is a far better skimmer than the octopus ....both skimmers are basically from the same source.only problem is the msx skimmers are selling so fast...they are all out of stock....i have the msx 160 for my 50g and its rockin...

loTs of peepS here have recirc'd oCtopus but they dont wanna sPeak up for fear of being fLamed :happysad: i've seen tHem in member tanks...

The TS is the latest version, PS is the regular, TS is with a bubble diffuser.

Their seach/board is down. I will check later so it appears the TS model is a good unit for what I want to accomplish. I have a 120g so what size should I get?

I would get the NW-200 and mesh, venturi, and flow mod it.

i used to have the octopus recirc 150. and it did a pretty good job...i didnt really like the pump all too much......but these new ones are a newer design thats copied of the more expensive skimmers....plus used a very good pump...i always been a fan of the octopus skimmers.....they're cheap and will work with a few tweaks....but these new msx skimemr have much better designs...IMO

dont have a up to date pic yet.....but this pic was about a week ago when i added my new sump and the skimmer...but i already pulled out a dark smelly collection cup full of skmmate that i oured out last night....ill try another pic in a few days.

In my sump I have about 13X11 inches so I would need it to fit.

the msx skimmers are only sold at marinesolutionsinc.com
but they are all sold out and wont have stock for another month or so...
i have a 50breeder with a 20g sump.
for a 120 you can go with a msx200...but then it is about 11x13 so might be a very tight fit.
you should look into the DAS ex-1 or the EX-2 also.

if you really want to know about the octopus skimmers go to the skimer thread and there are about 156 pages of skimmers in action so you will have a better idea of what you should get for the size tank and livestock you have .
