Pest Photo Gallery - New

All,

Thanks to our resident biologist and the site administration a photo gallery with pictures of reef pests has been added. This is a great option as it will serve to help educate all of us on what these pests look like and how to identify them. This is obviously a work in progress and you should use this as a resource to better mainatain the health of your reef aquarium while protecting the community from spreading them.

Please review this often as I am sure it will be updated regulalry.

Enjoy,

House

A complete tank breakdown is one way to get rid of them, :) . Flatworms are not easy to get rid of! They are much worse than red bugs, however, not as bad as nudibranchs.

For flatworms you should get Salfert's Flatworm exit.

For redbugs - interceptor.

For nudibranchs on zoanthids a fresh water dip, buffered to pH 8, with Lugol's iodine added.

For nudibranchs on acros and montiporas, I would just throw the SPS away and not even place it in the tank. You could fresh water dip the SPS, but I would predict a high mortality rate from the dip. I suppose you could also manually remove all nudies, but you would need to look out for the eggs too, and there would be a risk of missing one/eggs.
