I picked up an odd couple of clownfish from a friend in Denver in February. A black onyx percula female and a black occelaris. He said they had been together for a long time.

They spawned for me, a few weeks ago but the eggs were not visible. This time around they spawned again and in a very visible location in the front of the tank. Here are some pics of this odd couple's spawn. I know it probably offends some purists, but I am very curious as to what the resulting spawn will look like, so I am going to try to raise this batch if possible.

Nice pix S. Are going to culture your own rotifers? My clowns have been spawning for over two years now. The thought of having ANOTHER two tanks in the house has kept me from trying to raise them. Your 'odd couple' could be worth the extra work though.

I'm anxious like you to see the offspring. I'd think it would be approx. three weeks from hatch until you'd see any possible differences. Supposedly they don't color up until the third week.

If anyone can pull this off, you're the dude.

Keep us posted.

screw the purists. dying to see what the result would be. im guessing its going to look more or less like the black ocellaris. what makes u think this batch is viable? either way u will know in a couple days.

not another species - just a hybrid, like a liger or a mule. I guess I am more of a purist ( flamesuit on ) but am curious as to what the offspring will be like. What will you do with them though once they are grown? If you plan on releasing them to other hobbyists, thats where I can see a problem starting.

The occelaris and percula have been crossed before..often called the percularis. They tend to look very similar in shape to the ocellaris or percs. But on this one I am very curious (as are others) as to what colors the end product will end up with.

The parents are in my 29G reef tank along with a pair of black cap basslets and 3 peppermint shrimp. I plan on getting the babies out with a larval catcher on the night of the hatch. I have one that I have used before.. but am tempted to try out the new one made by CPR.

I am calling to get the rotifers ordered and use the next 8-9 days before they hatch to get ready. I know the eggs are viable, since the prior batches have developed.
