The Old MR

I just wanted to give a public thank you to Mat and Hovy :inlove: because last night they really helped me out with no other intentions but helping out a fellow reefer. I know that I have not posted on the boards in a while but last night Matt really said something that stood out which was that MR used to be a site where everyone met up and went to help new reefers or old alums setting up or fixing their tanks just for food, beer and good conversation. Lately, maybe because it is summer or people are breaking down because of the economy we don't see as much of that anymore. I know that we used to all meet up at a LFS and just hang out and talk reef....I hope that we can all take a minute to acknowledge what a great site we have here and that the hobby is our common interest but thru that we have all made some great friends!!!

nikki, once winter hits people will be more into reefing and gathering. Summers rough as alot of people are buisy either with work, money problems, vacation, outdoors stuff, ect.

I think the same old ghetto gathering are still happening and actually may be more. Many of the reefers have become friends and do not need to go thru the forum posting of such to get help or meet up. For example, almost everytime I pass by Blackbeard, he has couple reefers sharing his rum that leave me only tea-but I think I make better tea though. LOL

Do you see why my PM and RB always full? Everyday, they are bomdbarded with msg asking for help, analysis or just friendly conversation. I think the same must have been also happening to others too, so all-in-all a lot have happened behind the scene. It's just that new stuff pops up in the site and diluted the feel of the old MR.

A lot of stuff is happening behind the scenes. I know a bunch of members that had to change their invite policy to "private invite only" just because there are so many people showing up at each event.

We're trying pretty hard to strike a balance where we have a bunch of smaller events as well.

Hello All,

I totally agree that a lot more is happening behind the scenes than meets the eye. People are meeting, making friends and just helping out as much as in the past but it's just happening more on a personal basis. We're growing as a MR community but still small enough to give that special attention to any individual that needs help. Nikki, I'm glad to see that you got the help you needed and I hope that anyone who has the opportunity to help another reefer out myself included will continue to do so.

I always help a fellow reefer out with no intentions past that. Ive also done things with other members that havent been posted on the board. Collecting was one of them. I know i contacted you twice with no answer. Once was about a sky diving thing i saw on CL and the other was to just say hey whats up cause i havent seen you around for whatever reason it was. I dont know your reasons but welcome back Im sure as summer winds down things will be back to the way they were. Its kinda seasonal with everyone doing things with there families etc and putting reefing on the back burner.
