well its the first summer with my tank in the upstairs room.the temp in the room is at 80 degrees and the tank is at 81..i have the ceiling fan going and bought a 12 in fan which i screwed under the tank so its hitting the sump and hopefully it will bring the temp down..i cant afford a chiller right now and im afraid everything will be lost when we have those 100 degree days for 6 days straight..hopefully work will pick up and i can get that chiller before the enevitable happens :(

for the time being get some 2 liter bottles and freeze em with water.... when the temp starts climbing throw them in ur sump... put another 1 or 2 bottles in the freezer and alternate... ive been here b4 so i know... now i have 3 tanks up and running so i just let my home ac run 24/7 set with the t-stat... good luck...

if its an open top, point a fan at the top of the display too. the more evaporation, the cooloer your tank will get. my 20g evaporates a whopping 2 gallons a day when it gets really hot but stays around 82 deg in a non air condtioned room. if you top off wih kalkwasser, be carefull you dont spike the tank with all the replaced evaporation. i make weak kalkwassser during the summer months or sometimes just top off with straight RO when it starts eating topoff water really fast.

The tank temp will never be at or below the ambient room temp. If your room is hitting 80 and your tank is at 81, I think your system is expelling heat already. Normally, the tank temp would be 2 to 4 degrees above the room temp without a chiller.

thats why i keep my ac at 71 degrees. and when im home 68... but i do leave my heater in the sump just incase it needs to kick on.

How does a tank "evaporate water" when it is essentially surrounded by water in those 80%+ humidity days?
It barely does. A chiller is great if you can afford it and don't mind the extra wattage, but you can also get a temp controller to turn off lights when it gets too hot.

I run my lights from 6-12pm it helps alot with the heat and electricity rates are lower in most areas after 8pm.
Might be even better if you made it 12pm-6am as those are the cooler times
