I don't see what the big deal is. If a vendor bought an item, he was willing to pay the selling price or close to it to make an acceptable deal. If he then wishes to resale I don't see a problem with it, especially since this person is a vendor and already is paying for advertisement here. The way i see it these days, any buyer is an asset.

Once you sell something it is no longer yours obviously. If the buyer is able to sell your item for 5x the price.....YOU ARE A DUMBA$$$ for selling so cheap. As for selling freebie items, I still don't see a big deal, but if a person was able to get called out in a selling thread without have a mod delete the posts, the fear of embarrassment alone would be enough of a deterrent to prevent this.

Not that I'm a vendor or anything.....
But vendors and stores buy low sell higher. It's a business, and everyone knows it.

Taking freebie stuff and selling would, IMO, be lame.
Buying stuff and reselling, fine.
If a seller doesn't want to sell to a vendor because they don't want it resold, that's fine.

Let's say someone has a whole tank to sell. They might be happy to sell it in one shot to a vendor, to resell or not, rather than have to meet 50 different people who are just browsing, or buying one piece at a time. In this case, it helps the seller.

Pretending to buy stuff to keep, and then selling it is dishonest.

I think it is absolutely in the poorest taste to buy something here and sell it in a store for more money. That is taking advantage of the members here and violating members trust, especially since the people who are doing this are not up front about it but sneaking behind peoples backs and doing it. How would you feel if you sold someone anything and then saw it for sale for profit just because they took advantage of your good will and they took advantage of your desire to help others in the hobby and turn a profit.

Store owners who are vendors here and who are not vendors here are all welcome, just do the right thing. Don't be a weasel.

I always ask myself the same question, how would I like this to happen to me? Maybe others need to ask the same question of themselves before they act.

I agree!!!

I think if a store wants to buy a full tank with equipment back from a member who is getting out of the hobby that is fine. In fact, I know a lot of our vendors do this. They basically help set up the tank, and then when the person doesn't want it anymore they will buy it back and then resell the parts.

What is totally different is someone who represents themselves as a hobbyist (making no mention of the store or small operation they run) buying up certain types of products wherever they can in an attempt to corner the market. Imagine if you were going to sell your tank to me and I told you it was for my kid and I didn't have much money could you give me a discount on it, and then I took it and sold it in a store. Do you think that is good for the community?

As I've said before, there are a bunch of things that are fine, but some of this behavior is so tacky, disrespectful and bordering on illegal that we won't allow it here.

I really would like to know which vendor/ store is doing this? and if so is there any proof. Ive heard of several vendor / stores doing this however i have yet to see proof. Its one thing to say this its another to prove it...

Looks Like someones BUTTHURT ABOUT GETTING FIRED!!! SUX TO BE U MAN.

I assume you're talking about me?

Not at all.
I was just trying to add to what was more or less a constructive and informative thread. It's a shame that this site is more and more being ruined by a bunch of foul mouth punks who have nothing better to do than spew obnoxious comments.

No michael... I actually backed you up when they banned you from being a vendor here on MR... Check out your old thread right before they took you away as a vendor.

I am talking about the maker of this thread....

Your last line says it all...

I don't think the issue here is whether or not a vendor should be able to buy from members. I think in fact that most people agree that there is no problem selling to a vendor.

The thing that pisses me off is when you are trying to give another hobbyist a hand by offering up cheap/heavily discounted goods, and the community is denied the deal by a vendor who operates in a deceptive manner to aquire the goods and resell them at a much higher level. This *unfairly imho* deprives the rest of the community of a benefit someone was trying to offer them (and remember, many of us donate too, so its not just the vendors who fund this site.)

totally in agreement. people that deal with me know i sell stuff cheap, especially corals. me personally if i catch someone doing it i just dont do business with them anymore. until i see a change. i do believe in second chances. this doesnt apply to just vendors. members do it as well. i can see vendors wanting to buy certain corals, they arent getting them in from wholesalers, but to buy it to just propigate it to resale isnt correct either.

The saltwater/reef hobby is an addicting and beautiful thing. In this hobby for instance, it is you who actually controls the inhabitants life in your tank by nurturing and caring for them, in a sense you play God. When people up their prices for their items, it becomes more difficult as we all know to maintain your tank, soaring cost can lead to an empty wallet, and that's fun for no one. As a saltwater novice I feel that the moral thing to do would be to keep prices at the lowest possible prices, while still being to make a profit, cause lets face it, some vendors do this for a living and they have to make money. But IF it is true that vendors are buying frags and items of that nature and then selling and boosting the prices at their store, then my friend you need to do some soul searching.(I doubt this is true, a lot of people on this site seem to be stand up guys and girls, even vendors who have sometimes responded to my threads) It is repulsive, shameful disgusting and should be a violation of the terms of use, if some one is doing it but that's just my perspective on things as we all are entitled to our own.:bablefish:bablefish:bablefish:bablefish:bablefish

Personally, since I have been put on to this site, about two months ago, I have logged in almost everyday. There is a wealth of information on this site, and it actually helps me maintain my tank. I have seen really good deals on this site, or as I call them crackhead deals. When people sell 5 dollar frags, can you really go wrong? This site rocks, and I thank the admins who developed it, because if not, by now I would of spent thousands of dollars on books and miscellaneous items.
