Well, I finally made it to far off Queens today, and paid a visit to these two stores. And, I was definitely in a buying mood. I was largely disappointed at both places.

Fishtown-I got there when they were scheduled to open, and they kept me waiting outside 10 minutes while they finished getting set up. Strike 1. There were WAY WAY too many dead fish in their SW tanks. Ignoring the bigger problem of why they have so many dead, it is inexcusable not to pluck them out. Gives a real bad impression. Strike 2. I really wanted to get a juv imperator angel. They had a bunch of decent imperators and/or juv Korans. I know they are very similar, but nobody their could tell me which was which. Strike 3.

On a positive note, they had some big mama Mexican turbos that I picked up @ $1.99. I'll see if they can survive with Sharky.

H20-Much smaller selection than Fishtown. Nice looking livestock. However, everything their seemed to have just come in. No matter what I asked about, they said it just came in yesterday. Also, they had a strange selection. They had numerous specimins of the fish they had, but didn't have a lot of variety. I did manage to pick up a nice imperator, juv, and a nemo for my daughter.

I have been less than impressed with fishtown lately, and it seems some of the guys working there are a bit well... snotty. There are a couple of great guys, but they are older men, and only work part time. The kids are kind of insultng sometimes.
As for H2O, they're new, and still working on it. Also, they're quite busy, and the fish go quick. I like the guys, they're friendly, and I think they'll get it right soon. When I was there, they were very interested in this group and what we think of them. They seem to be eager to please.

why so many dead fish sharn?

you should be a FT expert. did you ever ask them what the deal is?

According to the guy I spoke to, FT deals w/ volume.
$$ = high vol of fishes being brought & sold.
They have a incredible turn over. Someone is definietly making $$ there.
You know that big guy there? I think he's a relative of the owner, well I saw him driving away in a $90,000 Range Rover?????

My family knows the owner of FT. If you ever drive there you know the back of FT backs up to a bunch of garages the 4 garages on the right hold all classic cars the owner of FT owns. Pontiac's, Chevy's all very beautiful cars. His white escalade is also parked in the back all the time. He is doing very well for himself but than again fishtown has been there forever

I live about 4 blocks away from FT and I visit there quite often. I did notice a number of dead fishes lately. Most of the time I'm there on weekends and it gets really crowded, so I'm not surprised that dead fish aren't taken out. Still though, it's fun looking at their selection. I do agree that it's either hit or miss with any fish purchased from FT.

it's never too late, do think there can be only one big fish store.

open your own and do it better, I bet there are enough people on this site to get backing from.

do it, like ink said, don't wish it. :wink1:

:wow: I never knew they had a website! I do like the staff there as they were knowledgeable and helpful with my purchases. Has anyone been ever been to Pacific Aquarium in Manhattan? It's another nice lil place on delancy with a small selection of salties and some coral. I usually make my purchases there since it's closer to me than H20. I think I'll head down to FT this weekend and scope the place out. Is there a bus I can take to get there since I heard it was far from H20?
