I still say it's carbon plus other crap.

look at the top of the skimmer neck in the first pic, that film is carbon residue.

silicone does not breakdown like that.

it was glass, silicone, cutting board, water, and salt.

what kind of water did you use? filtered or tap?

then I would say there was some funky stuff in the salt mix.
it mixed with the carbon and formed sludge.

did you find any more residue when you emptied the tank?

haha... cute.

I feel the need to be up and doing something... left at 5am for work (was dark) got home 8pm (was dark)... my day was totally a waste.
