I've beening looking to restock my tank, due to a crash in the summer. However I wanted to support local guys like myself that's in this for the love(a hobby), with rebuilding my own local reef!

But for the love of me, I can't figure out why so many people are selling frags for the same prices that a vendor would charge or even.

Can somebody answer that for me? am i missing something?

There are good people in this hobby and lots of people are selling frags for the same prices they got them for trying not to lose money. There are also those who are buying and flipping to try to become "americas next top coral hundredaire." Try to avoid those folks. :) I have some zoas and xenia that are almost ready to frag and I could throw some your way if interested. Let me know.

You kind of answered your own question.
Who ever said everyone here, or any site for that matter, loved this hobby? (Not accusing anyone ... it's just the truth). Don't delusion yourself into thinking that ... you will be very disappointed. Hold tight and good deals (whether little $$$ or Free) from good people, will come your way. :)

There is a small shop in Dunellen NJ called Red Sand. They guy doesn't have the largest selection in the world, but his prices are by far the best. SPS frags start at $10 and most are priced there up to $30. Zoas are about $20 to $30 a colony and those are anywhere from 15 to 50 polyps. And the best part is he always throws in stuff for free, like 2-3 polyps on a small rock or single shrooms.

I think people have the right to sell their frags for $1,000 if they what to, or give them away for free if they see fit.You don't know how much work and money they have invested on their system to begin with .When was the last time you bought a bucket of marine salt or took a go look at your electric bill? It's totally up to YOU to buy or pass.On the other hand they are people how pay premium prices for fargs at the LFS and then try to lowball you on an already low price.

Pet's Warehouse in Copiague, NY right on the Sunrise Highway has some nice frag tanks you can check out as well!

I totally agree with Dre!!! Hence the reason I don't have designer corals, or should I say not many since I do have a couple of those due to my friends here.;)
These days, kourt you are right the prices are rediculous, therefor I do as Dre says: I keep on walking!lol
As long as there are people with, and willing to spend big bucks for a frag of something it will continue to exist.
I thank God that there are still those willing to further the hobby by helping those of us who are way less fortunate.:)

I am in the same situation with regards to restocking my tank. But luckily for me I have found a few guys on here that have given me a great deal on some nice corals, they know who they are and believe me when I say I will return the favor if asked. But yes you will find those that do charge top dollar, but it's up to you to either walk away or buy what they are selling.

By the way there are a few frag swaps coming up in the tri- state area in the next few months.

Just reading over the post!! yes i do agree that there're alot of helpfull reefers on this site....i've met alot, sat in a few livingrooms getting my lession and
material needed to be a success in this hobby.
I do know the cost of maintaining a tank(i currently maintain a 180gal myself), but i still feel that we should'nt be trying to be "americas next top coral hundredaire" (love that quote Educator). We should be gatekeekers of the reefs, showing off our creation while educating other, not only to sell frags to cover all of our expense(believe me i'm all for that), but to perserve and protect the reefs which are in danger as we speak due to climate changes and too frequent collection of it's contents.
With that that said, with such high frag pricing, people will turn more to vendors, which will one day put a end to this hobby, this hobby that so many of us LOVE.
