This i gonna sound crazy, but...if you can get the rock or coral or wherever the aptasia is OUT of the tank, just blast it with one of those long-necked barbeque or stove lighter things...100% kill rate in less than a minute, and it NEVER comes back. But that is only if you can get the rock out of the tank. They don't work under water;)
U sure? Lol I can always lend a good torch that'll work under water! Lol...

I read on LIRA about a fish called a bristle file fish. Very cool looking little fish. Eats aptasia and will eat other food, so it should not be difficult to keep like the copperband butterfly fish.

On LIRA, it was mentioned a couple of reefers had used them with excellent success.

Hope this helps.

Comparing the Nudi branch, copper butterfly and the bristle file fish, I know that some reefers discourage the first two, because if they die off, it's a shamle to get them. Where as the file fish, seems easier to acclomate to our tanks.

Glad to know the aiptasia x worked. You bought that stuff quickly too geez.

Anyway, Tess I know you were at our booth talking with Dom. He still has Berghia nudi's and the filefish... but I think the issue was your tank was too new?

On a small tank, I would be careful that whatever chemical you put in the tank, it does not change your basic parms... Where as on a a larger tank, I would think the solution being put in, would have less of an effect on water parms, because of larger volume of water.

Peppermint shrimp make a great addition to any tank and most eat aptasia, they will also keep it in check should they spring up elsewhere. I've always had good luck with them. I would give this a shot before using any chemicals in a small tank.

i got a semi-simple solution. give dom the rock with the aiptasia. i'll give him some live rock to replace yours. then dom owes me a favor.....lol.
you're only setting up a 20gal. i got some extra in the sump to spare.
since he's supposed to come over my house, he can p/u the lr. the only problem is you are in manhattan and dom and i are in jersey. plus if you want to pick the size and shape then you gotta come look yourself.
just throwing it out there. lmk if interested.

I once had my tank filled with that stuff. I like the old method of buying peppermint shrimps. It always works for me. Some might say that not all eat them then my solution is you buy 3 or more and one of them will :) There is this store by Jacob Javis Center dont recall its name but they sell them for cheap (when i got them) The tank is aptasia free for 6 months now. Happy reef keeping

MA has Peppermints at $6. The only bad part is, it's the luck of the draw finding one that will eat it. I'd just go spend the $12 dollars on Aiptasia-X, the logic is the Aiptasia eat the solution. The solution hardens and blocks the mouth to prevent anything exiting and the Aiptasia slowly implodes. The key is to block the mouth.

For those who say they used it and it didn't work... sorry to say but you did it wrong. You have to cover the whole thing and be generous with it. Don't be scared that it will foul the water up. If it makes anybody feel better just do a water change after....

You CAN get rid of Aiptasia, sorry to hear that you never got rid of them Duke but you definitely can. I have no idea why you kept using filefish, but you have to remember the Aiptasia recede after it is touched so the fish might not have eaten it all. That could be a reason why. Kalk only works to a certain extent some Aiptasia are tougher than others, plus there is no gaurantee that the Aiptasia takes in all of the kalk or that the mouth is blocked. They could easily expel whatever was taken in.

I had never heard of Joe's Juice before, so I looked it up when someone mentioned it.

They have a pretty cool YouTube video of that stuff working:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfENGsdTRTc

That video of the Joe's Juice is pretty cool!

IMO you should try eliminating them with white vinegar first instead of spending the money on JJ or Aiptasia-X. I turn the powerheads off, inject some into the mouth first, then some into the foot (if it's in a spot that I can get to.) Most of the time they don't come back. If they do, I hit them again the next day and they're goners. Plus, you probably already have white vinegar in your kitchen ;)
