Anyone have a bad case of them melting?? I got him from another member 2 weeks ago
something strange happen yesterday at 4pm? I saw the Effloe start shrinking, I have not touched my system in days and thought maybe like xenia my tank is to clean for them to live. I first thought it was like to much light and it closed up at the end of the light cycle. So today I removed it and as I was the power head got a hold of what was dead and blew all over my tank.(I am pissed off for not shutting off power head).
The only other strange thing is my coco worm has not came out today?? I just finished a huge 80gal water change and change carbon. I will test all level tomorrow but Monday I tested and they read.
Alk 8.8
cal = 440
mag= 1290 (dosing it up tomorrow to 1350)
po4 = .02
salinity 1.025
ph= 8.1
temp 78-79deg (I have a chiller so no swing)
i have ground probes, and I removed heaters today
I have mostly sps and all look great
My other soft coral is looking great also??

Im sorry to hear this happened, the only thing I can think of is obvious stuff im sure you already thought of, like ro/di contamination, old filters or membrain. But the rest of your corals are good. I dont have efflo, so I am not very familiar with it. I had a small frag of regular efflo when my tank was ill equipt and I did not realize it. When it died it did not melt , the color just went away and it stopped growing. I hope that you figure out what went wrong. Oddly enough my GSP colony seems to have started receeding today , but thats another thread.

Good Luck Chuck & Anna Maria

oh man..so sorry to hear Jarrett..it was a beautiful rock....xenia is funny stuff..some systems they grow like weeds and others just die....I actually placed some in different parts of my tank some died and others lived....I moved them all in my fuge for nutriant export and they slowly all died..i haven't been able to keep them since...

I'd run a fresh change of carbon just to be safe as a crashing Xenia colony ( and presumably Efflautenaria) can release some pretty nasty toxins as it melts. I don't think there is any indication that you are having a system wide problem though, and I wouldn't over react. Just keep an eye on things.

Yea dude, calm down. I always tell people Xenia's are hit or miss for whatever reason. Where did you place them in the tank? A High flow area? How much lighting did they have?

My Xenias grow everywhere... I had sanjays efflo but I had it mounted incorrectly and I can't find it lol.

If you want some Xenia to test out. I can hook you up with a few. So far everybody who has gotten from me have had good luck.
