Ok well I am still battling the green monster here, but today did a 50% water change with RO water and changed my lights back to the old setup of 10ks and not the new 12ks i just got (PCs) ....to see what happens with that....

I also have been doing some research and came up with 2 things....
1. I am thinking about using chemi-clean or Acural E (but dont know if that would be reef safe and or can be used on marine aqauriums) in hopes it can help rid the green water look....

2. Read at Fosters and Smith that poly filter indicates what may be coming out of your water, in my case the poly pad as well as the phospad i tried have been turning a brownish/orange color when exhausted...this is an indication of iron diposits, and according to fosters comes from tap water (i know i know) but can also cause unwanted algae...

So my question is could it be to much iron from the previous water i just took out that is causing this? and if so how do i battle an iron problem?

dont add anything to your tank, until you know what the problem is.
Chemi clean is used for red slim ..not to sure about the other.
If you only have fish on your tank ,i would make up new RO water enuff to fill your tank 2ce .
take out your rock and live stock and put it in a rubber maid or extra tank(of course use your aquarium water) fill up your tank with freshly made RO saltwater .run it for a day or so ,see if your tank stays clear. If so add a rock at a time in your tank.an hr apart.see what happens, this is if you dont have alot of livestock.
If your water stays clear when no rock is in,and after gets green ,i would cook the rock and stop fiddling with your tank .JMO

adding all of the chemicals etc will only get rid of symptoms. What u need to do is look for the cause and fix that.

If its a new tank an algae bloom is bound to happen (part of the cycle). We all go through that. Time, diligence and a good clean up crew will take care of that quite quickly.

If its an older established tank just look for the cause and you will be so much better off rather than dosing all sorts of stuff and ending up in the same spot again at a later point.

Well I will see how it reacts from this water change and take it from there....esp with the other lights in....I am trying to stay away from a UV bc i start school again on Mon and i need to buy books (god knows how much those will be this semester) so trying to simplify it as best as i can...I do have softies which are thriving thus far.....

When i think of a new tank algae bloom i think of my 30g that went through some brown diatoms on the sand and some cyano on the rocks (tap water) cause but i never saw green or cloudy water of any kind....

I don't think they'll make it thru to well and if the cause of the algae is still in the tank, then it will just come back after the two days without light.

Why not just do the 100% start with all new SW and cook your rocks. Just restart the entire tank. In all this time it could have been done ;). JMO.

Nano (kris ) is right ,why are you wasting time and effort on post and changing water.
You are posting for help,We are telling you what to do and yet you fiddle like the fiddler on the roof,or is that the roof is on fire!! either way its a waste of time. Its been how long since your 1st post of this algea ,about 2 ,3 weeks ago.As kris said you would of been done with cooking your rock.So get with man ,put yourself together and do the right thing to get yourself back on the right track.you can change and change and change your water as much as you want ,it will not help.YOur problem is most likely in your rock and sand.cook the rock ,get new sand have a great reef or fish tank.Keep doing what you are doing and you are most like going to quit this hobby.cause you are doing it to yourself slowly.JMO

You will become better with mistake ,just learn to solve them ,not let it kill you,One thing about reefing there are no mistakes.or i will cost you your tank,as my mistake should help you and others,as this one will help too
Hope your next post will say ,I just took out my rock and now cooking them ,LOL :knockedou
