using European skimmers as is? NO! The least you would have to do is change the pump to a US model. There are two differences between the two continents. One is the voltage and the other is the frequency (hertz). Although a stepdown transformenr will pull down the voltage there are no transformers that will conver the frequency. The pumps will not function properly and die prematurely.

Also the needlewheel in the Deltec skimmers are different in the US than in Europe. They have been redesigned (optimized) for the US frequency.

BTW, they are even cheaper in Germany! :)

herm if i wanted to sell my skimmer to get a deltec which one would be good for about 340 gallons of water. i was told it's always best to try and double the amount of rating. i will be using on a 180 sps with a good volume of fish. tied into a 125 gal reefsump and and 4 reactors, kalk phos, carbon, calcium.

Turbo 1060 or AP701 would do fine. If you can go bigger even better.

Well I am going to Finland for study abroad next semester, I might stop over at Germany since I have family over there, I think I just might pick one of 'em up. Can I use American pumps on the skimmers?

wow, MCE 600 is only 220 pounds, so that's about little more than $300? Still expensive for me but much cheaper than here in US. I wonder how much it is in German.

Those prices include VAT if you get it shipped to the US it should be around 18% cheaper.

Herman, thats true. That site has it added already. I just ordered bathroom accessories from the UK it was 380.00 Pounds/sterling? after i reminded them im in the USA they apologized saying they forgot to remove it, now its 342.00 Pounds/sterling?
My point is REMIND them, if ordering from Europe.

Thanks for letting me know, I am still speaking with these guys in the UK. They are trying to find out if they can get American pumps and not converters.

They will not get you the american pumps and there are no converters for pumps. The US pumps are shipped directly from Germany to the US. They are not available anywhere else. They have to protect the market so that we dont go buying stuff in Europe for cheaper. Generally you will end up paying more in the end. But you never know right. Good luck!!!
