Purchashed a 260 gallon tank, would like to install it in the basement because would not have to deal with heat in the summer and most important get an engineer to evaluate thefoundations of the house. What is your recommendation the basement or the first floor. Please exaplain your response. . I definitely would appreciate any feedback from all specially from those that have tanks 250 gallons or more. Thank you

Have had engineers to my home, twice...once in 1991 when I wanted a 300g in my living room, and they suggested 'sistering' the floor joists, and again in 2007, when I was upgrading to my 450g, Which would have required an extra steel beam to support the floor joists. This was in a home built in 1980, and against load bearing walls.
Both tanks ended up being installed in the basement.

IMO the basement ended up being a better choice, not only for the heat issue, but also because of the additional room for the sump and other equipment. HOWEVER...you must be prepared to 'spend' time down there, or the tank WILL suffer...hopefully it is a finished basement, so you can enjoy your time there.

In the basement you'll have more room to spread things out. and if you don't finish something right away it wont be a visual problem like having it on the 1st floor. Then there is the weight. every piece of added equipment will add weight to the beams.

I started out in the basement and upgraded in the basement, its been much easier.

My biggest concern is the humidity, I had a 75 gallons last year and it was very humid in the basement, how do you control the humidity, do you keep it closed with glass. my dehumidifier was working none stop last summer.
