Reef Central has a spot at MACNA and reefs.org don't

I was looking at the speaker schedule for the upcoming MACNA and noticed Reef Central has a slot on the program. How come Reefs.org doesn't too? Sucks if you ask me. I heard James speak at MO and he is a good speaker.

Actually Dr. Evil probably paid for it. It's possibly their way of saying thanks for allowing censorship to florish in 21th Century America. Then again maybe it was MAMTI. I'm sure there are no shortage of groups that want to make sure only positive things are said about their efforts. I want to say thanks to Len and James and the gang for allowing reefs.org to be different. I know things tend to get out of hand at times, but I salute the rdo mods for letting freedom ring. You guys have class and balls.

Ask yourself this question.... Why would MASNA/Boston people put on a "meet and greet" during an oversold meeting where hundreds of people have paid to listen to advances in the hobby?

Remember that these websites (especially the forums/boards) are derived purely from the membership. There is nothing they can say that has any value for the hobby as a whole.

far beit for me to disagree with Wade but a website could sponsor a speaker but thats different than an owner/operator speaking about the state of the hobby or web which imo is prolly useless....

That was my point, independant people can certainly provide information that betters the hobby. But a session dedicated just to "introducing and getting familiar with" someone is either an attempt to fill a gap or some similar response. I will reserve judgement til the meeting to discern whether it is a useful event or not. I personally haven't met many of their moderators and don't know them at all, I just believe that this session is a total waste of attendees time and funds.

From the agenda it sounds more like a social event rather than a lecture type event.

Nothing against the folks at RC (I post frequently there), but I would think there are plenty of other opportunities for socializing at MACNA and would think that that slot could be used by a good speaker instead. Maybe they can have an impromtu speach by some of their experts or something. With the way the events are structured there are several other real lectures going on at the same time that people can attend though.

Lots of questions about MACNA this year, I guess we will find out how it ends up in a couple weeks.

Just ranting a bit, but here is my signature that was just removed by RC staff.

The person that can explain to me why my sig needed to be removed might just be able to convince me to go back there again. I used to think it was a nice board.

They don't allow URL's in anyone's signature because some people were using them for commercial advertising.

They have an anouncement stating that URL's in signatures aren't allowed any longer.

I wasn't implying in any way that it had anything to do with reefs.org. They removed sigs indiscriminately as far as I know. It just bugs me that they removed a link that describes my tank and nothing more. Whatever, it's not a big deal at all, I would just rather not go back than complain about it.
