I was cruzing this website : http://www.absolutelyfish.com/HomePage.htm
and noticed they're MAC certified. They have this option on the lower left of their homepage that allows you to view the different batches of MAC fish they've recieved. I couldn't find a single DOA/DAA in all their fish. None of the green chromis even ;) Amazing, MAC fish do walk on water. Odd thing is, none are from this year (2005).

The juvi clarion on the homepage is kinda funny as well. Wonder which batch it came from :D

The shipments that I have been getting in from a MAC certified supplier have been coming darn close. Even on the chromis.

Rover that's interesting, as the folks here that use a MAC certified supplier are getting all the doa/daa. More than their fare share, that's for sure. Enough so, that they're just about ready to give them the boot.

Yah, but your not certified, so according to MAC, those aren't MAC fish when they get to your store ;)

Rover,

That's a credit to the 'MAC certified supplier' .
If it were true for all such 'MAC certified suppliers', it'd be more clearly
to MAC's credit as well.

Ultimately, those are encouraging signs, I'd say.
I'm not familiar wth differences in domestic US shipping routes/times/characteristics
between destination GA and destination KY, but that may be a key factor.

Rover lives real close to a major air cargo hub. I've had stuff come from LA to GSO through Atlanta and have it get stuck in atlanta for a day or two. Even the difference of 6-7 hours if everything goes right can take you from 0% DOA to 5+%

I usually pick up my fish around 2 and have them tanked by 4:30. Not sure when they are packed but my fish are certainly longer in transit than the Atlanta stores.

I remember seing those catsharks on the list forever ago when the first "certified fish" became available. But I haven't seen any certified fish on a list in ages.

Did they remove that from the web page? I click on the MAC icon and just go to a MAC pep talk.

Well, it's not like it's news that mac certified wholesalers don't have even one mac certified fish to sell us, and I figured everyone was tired of hearing that.. so I thought I'd sing about my favorite "mac".

I think hes on to something here.
The similarities between the hamburger king and the eco-NGO that would be king are numerous.

For example;
1] Greatest sales for the least product rendered.
Mc Donalds has the smallest patties but at least they provide a product with the sale. [MAC sells its schtick without a substantive product. ]

2] Focus more on PR and image control then substance.

3] Lots and lots of paper to go with the deal.

4] Targets children and young people the most...ie Nemo crowd accepts the grease, the sugar. salt and the calorie load better....and they co-opt their parents into the deal to keep them quiet.

5] MACdonalds position on the environment is a tool to help bulimics spew easier.... Its a 'feel-good' without the 'do-good'....and it confuses environmentally concerned albiet naive people.
It is accepted by franchise dealers as an auto-response to any critics there may be...and handed out without them reading it or understanding it themselves....
and its nicely written on good paper.

I think Jeremys post was actually rather helpful....

I recall a mixed shipment of MAC and non-MAC fish we received last year (hmm... smell fishy? it did to me).. Namely copperband butterflies and A. ocellaris. The butterflies looked like crap and we lost 2/3, and the clowns were in pretty ragged shape though all survived (albeit I don't think I've ever heard of a DOA or DAA clownfish).
