MO seahorses are a micron drop of water compaired to the Asian use in medicine. What CITES did was a feel good move but honestly didn't do much against the curio trade and medicinal use. I saw baskets FULL in china town just a few weeks ago. No CITES docs ;)

Really? We have over a dozen LFS here and I haven't been able to find any since 2005.

I think thats because most LFS's do not bring em in. Mortality is high and it's hard to get them toeat. I only get T.R. Seahorses or Tank Bred Seahorses.

Take some affirmative action. Report this to the appropriate authorities.

tell you what-you go to china and start a crusade there-what's going on in chinatowns across the u.s. is but a drop in the bucket compared to what's going on over there-should i book you a ticket ?

the same thing is going on over there in canada, btw (every country/city with a traditionalist chinese population of any kind, most likely)-why don't you call YOUR local authorities ?

have you ever taken affirmative action for any of the hobby's/industry's issues you rant about? or do you just tell others to do so ?

I live in Richmond B.C. which is fifty per cent Asian.

Let me assure you that if I saw seahorses in buckets in an Asian market I would most certainly report it to the proper authorities.

I challenge you to do the same. It will make you feel good. Do it.

Ok, so this is weird, but I made our local craft store take them out of stock! I complained to the manager, and then wrote the big corporate boss.

Why can't TCM just use Viagra like the rest of the world?

Hey, where DOES Viagra come from?

$15 pill or 2 cent dead seahorse? Not a hard choice to make if you making $40 a month.

I have a suggestion for you and it entails a long walk on a short object over a large body of water. Sorry but after YEARS of this from you I just have no respect for you. You have the nack of bringing out the worst in me, please don't reply to any of my posts again.

I have been proactive on environmental issues all my life Wayne. Do not pretend I am some one that needs coaching from you.

The "authoritees" know all about China town Wayne and the fact +75% of items sold are smuggled/illegal, they emplyee illegal aliens, sell fireworks, sell shark fins, sell dried seahorse, dried poached CA abalone, etc, etc, etc. Non of the business I see could pass any health code inspection. Most of the porducts do not even follow the US labelling act.

I can't believe I'm coming out of lurkdom over this....

Wayne - ever been to a tourist beach shop? Particularly in Florida - every shop that sells tourist souvenirs has a bin of seahorses, one of sand dollars and one of sea stars. It's disgusting - to me, but apparently not to the general public.

Most LFS that I know of don't carry seahorses as an 'impluse' item. I only bring them in (tank-raised - haven't seen a wild caught one on a list for a while) when somebody has set up a tank for that purpose and is ready for them.

I'm sure some wholesalers carry the wild caught ones - but the suppliers I use don't.
