Acan colony dying!

I have had this Acan colony for 3yrs. and suddenly the bottom row of heads are dying one by one. Anyone have any ideas as to cause or remedy. Water params all good.

have you gotten anything new to agrivate it? when was the last time you changed your bulbs? have you changed anything such as flow, chemicals, placement, etc...?, do you use carbon?

Yes, I use carbon, nothing new near it accept some xenia have multiplied around it. The bulbs were changed about 3 months ago, but I used the same brand and type of bulb to replace.

Did your test kits go bad?

No, relatively new test kits. I have a perdominatly sps tank. All of my sps are colored up and growing. I was thinking maybe some kind of parasite eating away. I'm really stumped.

Since it's only the bottom row I'd look more towards a fish nipping at it or something close by, other LPS sweepers stinging it (sweepers can get very long), growth from the rest of the colony shading the lower heads, power head moved, the xenia maybe hitting it causing the heads to stay closed?

Shiveling and showing skeleton. That's it. My digital camera is shot I need to go get another.

Yes, I bought another piece of Acan at the last swap. When I got back from a month long vacation in it was dead but I didn't see it go.
I alway dip in iodine before I add any corals.

There're some coral-eating worms that eat acans. Pull out the colony, examine it, make sure there're no boreholes in the skeleton that might house a worm...

Are you talking about the ones with 2 tentacles in the front and have a slight blue tint?

A lot of the time softies will die back when nutrient levels are to low.. I had trouble growing softies with my predominantly sps tank.. Try some aminos... But first make sure that carbon was rinsed well..
