  1. Home made reefs

i just used white portland cement and aragonite sand... it worked pretty well, but i added too much water, and the shapes kinda melted.
  2. Pet Co makes its move!!!!!!!!!

im guessing that since they already have distribution channels for their stores, they may just be beefing them up....anyone know who if they use regional or national distributors?
  3. HELP MY CORAL BANDED SHRIMP GAVE BIRTH NOW WHAT?

you need to feed them artemia at about 5/ml take out the adults, as they will eat the larvae. http://www.petsforum.com/cis-fishnet/JAAS/D044.htm also make sure to siphon the detritus off the bottom, as it decays quickly, and can harbor pathogens
  4. SCWD and output drop-off?

i did the mod that you bore out the outlets, so i have them coming out at 3/4". i also removed the bottom so i can access it if it gets clogged. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76847&hl=scwd
  5. SCWD and output drop-off?

there is significant loss unless you mod it. i modded mine, and get almost no flow reduction
  6. Sea salinities ?

unless you get natural seawater and evaporate it to get the salinity u want
  7. Sea salinities ?

because most of the things in you aquarium come from places with lower salinity. also, the lower salinity is bad for parasites. I have kept mine at 35ppt (world average) for some time now, and i used to keep it at 45ppt (about what is found in the red sea). most people I know keep it between 25...
  8. Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch Batman! What is that?

probably not from a brittle star as they are brooders. my guess is that is a mollusc egg mass...do you have any benthic snails or cucumbers?
  9. Culturing Phytoplankton

tet likes slightly cooler water than nanno or chaeto in my experience. i beleive there have been studies done on light color, but as long as the light is intense enough, and full spectrum, it shouldnt matter.
  10. Crocea Clam ailing

any bleaching? you may want to try feeding phytoplankton to see if it exhibits any feeding behavior. also pass your hand over it, and see if it retracts quickly, or if it reacts sluggishly
  11. Pocillopora Damicornis Spawning in My Tank-Updated 9/12/06

cyro: that looks like p. verucosa. there is a lot of debate in the literature about p damicornis. it started out that they are brooders, then that they are broadcast spawners, then that they primarily reproduce asexually by some sort of asexual planulation. now there is evidence for both sexual...
  12. Accelerating coral growth

food helps, just dont add too much that you foul the water. if you have access to rotifers or copepods they will help growth by giving the colony more energy to expend. it also takes a while for a coral to acclimate to new settings, and since maintenance is basal, most of the energy from...
  13. Micro bubbles

if you have/plan to have seahorses, microbubbles cause gas-bubble disease which can kill them. also, depending on how many you have, it can make your tank look like there are particles everywhere.
  14. Peppermint shrimp

depends on the species and geographic source. the peppermint shrimp genus was recently changed from 2 poorly described species that sometimes were the same, to 5 or 6 species. recent genetic work has also shown that shrimp from the east coast of florida are genetically different than those from...
  15. Slime Solution? what do you think?

more flow across the sand, and maybe shorten your photoperiod. ive seen that to help, but regardless, it will grow until it removes all of random nutrient x that cyano requires, then completely disappear. (unless your tap water contains random nutrient x)
