  1. Dumbest Thing you Have ever Done...

Cliped a 6" fan on my tank during the summer to keep it cool. Of course I knocked it in while it was running. Very cool sound and adds a special decorating touch. Fortunately I caught it before the motor submerged. No electricution, no dead fish, no dead me. P.S. don't grab anything...
  2. HELP!!! My stand is coming apart WITH a reef tank on it!!!

You might try a motorcycle strap. They are cheap, very strong, and will work even in tight areas. I doubt that screws alone would work with that type of wood. After synching the stand back together you might add a few screws for support. Good Luck Bryan
  3. i got my calico crab , hes awesome

Someone is talking about this crab on "The Reef Tank" and aparently they get fairly large and will eat snails, shrimp, fish, anything they can catch. Depending on your set up it sounds like it might not make the best inhabitant. See Ya Bryan
  4. Base Rock?

I don't know about online, but check with LFS or post a message for reefers in your area. I got several hundred pounds for free from a guy who got out of reefing and had it sitting in his garage. The wife wanting to get rid of it was a big help. It's worth a try and no shipping charges. Good...
  5. Newbie Salifert Test kit help

The Salifert test kits do have a lot of parts with them, but simply read the directions and you should be ok. If you didn't get them with the kit let us know. As far as the Kalk mix, you might try pickeling lime from the grocery store. Mrs. Waggs or Ball will work fine, they cost under $2 for...
  6. Help, Alkalinity still climbing!!

This is a continuation from my post yesterday. Bubble rate = 32 bpm Media = ARM Reactor = single chamber Drip rate reduced to one drip every 2.5 seconds Efluent calcium = 500 I don't know the PH of the effluent because my tests suck. I don't have a PH monitor. Can you calculate PH from an...
  7. bleaching monti?

New strong lights or quick temperature increases can cause a digitata to bleach. In my experience once this happens they don't recover. Good Luck.
  8. Help, Alkalinity still climbing!!

I"m not dosing Kalk. My PH test only goes to 7.4, I'm getting a new one soon. (Red Sea) The effluent is driping into my sump. It is about 6" off the water so the CO2 doesn't go back to the tank. I also have a refugium to minimize PH swings. SO do I adjust the CO2 or effluent rate? Thanks Bryan
  9. Help, Alkalinity still climbing!!

My Alkalinity is still climbing and I need help lowering it. I've done several searches but I'm still not certain what to do. I increased my effluent rate a few days ago, however Alk is still climbing. Do I increase CO2? Please help me tune my reactor. Here are my reedings. Calcium...
  10. CO2 regulators...

I got mine from a local welding shop also and have had no problems. I also use one of the needle valves from Home Depot which cost $3.95. Someone on these boards told me they worked great, and they do. I can only get my bubble count down to 14 bubbles per minute at the lowest. So if you need...
  11. Garlic for ich?

The first fish I used garlic on got better in only a few days. Later on I treated another fish and it took 3 weeks. I still use it as a preventative measure once or twice a week. Haven't had any problems for several months. Have Patience. Bryan. P.S. also make sure you have removed or...
  12. Garlic for ich?

I use 8-10 drops per frozen food cube. Seems to work great at these levels. Good Luck Bryan
  13. Help tuning DIY reactor.

My tank is 70 gallon, 10 gallon sump, 5 gallon refugium run on reverse daylight cycle. The bubble count on CO2 is 15 bubbles per minute, effluent rate is one drop per second. The reactor has been running for six days. So do you guys think I shoud tweak something? Bryan
  14. Help tuning DIY reactor.

Re-tested today and here are the results. 12/14/01- Calcium 335, Alk 11.2dKH 12/16/01- Calcium 360, Alk 12.8dKH 12/21/01- Calcium 370, Alk 13.3dKH So what do I need to do to lower Alk and increase calcium? I would like to tune the reactor before I add anything else. Thanks Bryan
  15. Help tuning DIY reactor.

I turned on my reactor two days ago. My co2 is running at 14 bubbles per minute and the effluent is dripping at around 1 drip per second. My calcium was at 335, dKH at 11.2, PH at 8.4. Today my calcium is at 360, dKH at 12.8, and PH at 8.4. I'm not sure the PH is ever accurate, it is a red...
