Wow! This past weekend I ordered two 4' actinic HO T5 bulbs and a retro kit from www.specialty-lights.com to replace the 4' NO actinics in my hood. After seeing the results here, I just might go all the way!

I have one over my fuge and the macro loves it. I took mine apart and drilled about 40 holes in the top to help with the heat. Its been running 10 hours a day for the past 8 weeks now and so far so good. Most people that have used them have had the same experience as Liquid. But for $24.95...

Dark blue. Wish I had used black because the blue really makes the power cords and powerheads stand out. :?

Oh BTW...The LFS that sold me the Emerald said that it would only eat the 'bad' algae and was reef safe. I am starting to find a lot of empty snail shells. Hmmm....

According to http://saltaquarium.about.com/library/w ... 122900.htm Padina is a calcareous algae similar to Halimeda. I have never had any in my tank but I did have a beautiful clump of Halimeda. That is until I added an Emerald crab :cry: . Now there is no trace of any kind of macro algae...

The bubbles are not coming from the power heads. I plugged up the venturi on the power heads because I got tired of rescuing snails that got trapped by the vacuum. The bubbles are definitely coming from the skimmer. Do you think a block of foam in the media basket would make an effective...

I do weekly tank maintenance which includes cleaning my Prizm (origional version). I still have to adjust it almost every day to get a dry foam. Mine also releases very fine bubbles into the aquarium. I think these fine bubbles slowly accumulate in the siphon tube (just past the flow control...

I use the plumbers putty (blue & white) from Home Depot. Works pretty good and does not seem to bother the critters. I agree with reefland...don't use a lot at once.

I am using one now. It does a pretty good job of skimming but: 1-Puts a lot of bubbles into the tank 2-You have to power down and re-prime to clean 3-The design makes it very difficult to clean the reaction chamber 4-I get a lot of salt creep where the collection cup connects to the reaction...

My Royal Gramma spends most of the day in and around the rock. Sometimes I can't even find him but he always comes out at dinner time :wink:

Mixed. I have had FW aquariums for the past 30 years. I just started my first reef back in March. Everything is going very well so far (knock on wood). Being new to reef aquariums, I only buy critters advertised as 'low maintenance', 'hardy', or 'good for the beginner'. Right now it does...

Damsels are pretty much harmless. They will chase fish that invade their space, but thats about all. I have a Clown, a Royal Gramma, and two Damsels. The Damsels have never injured the other fish, so I don't think you need to worry about it. Enjoy your Damsels! 8)

Mine do the same thing. The also guard their caves during the day, chasing any other fish that should dare enter.
