  1. Sequence 1000 Physical Dimensions

Thanks Leftovers. I also called MDM (Manufacturer), and asked the same question before I saw the reply. They didn't give me the dimensions, but instead faxed me over the detailed engineering drawing of the pump I asked about. This is a great company. I hope they stay that way.
  2. Sequence 1000 Physical Dimensions

I'm trying to design my sump, and I need the physical dimensions for this pump. Anyone have a tape measure handy? Sam
  3. Plywood Tank Builders’ I need your help

Mongo, Thanks for the reply. Using wood for the overflow is a great idea. I don't know why I was stuck on using acrylic. The concern with plexiglass over the epoxy is exactly what I am worried about. Anybody try this? do you get alge or have problems with water getting behind the acryllic...
  4. Plywood Tank Builders’ I need your help

I am considering building a plywood tank in the 250 gallon range. I have some structural/materials questions. This is a long post, but anywhere you could help out would be appreciated. Attached (hopefully) are two pictures, one of the 135 where the tank is going, and the other is a quick drawing...
  5. E- Balast or Ice cap

I have sent one of them in 3 times. (440 running 2-6ft VHO) It keeps burning out. The last time I had it mounted upside down in the canopy. A cap actually came unsodered and fell out (the one that rattles). The other two (440 and a 175) have both been sent in 1 time each. While they do repair...
  6. E- Balast or Ice cap

I've had both the Icecap and the E-ballast. I like the E-Ballast. I currently have 3 Icecap ballast sitting in the closet all broken. 2 have wires that came loose from the harness, and one sounds like a rattle when shaken. I've had and E-Ballast for 1 year, and I am very happy with it. 10K or...
  7. Oceanic RR dual overflows setups. how much GPHs??

That should be fine. I run a mag 9.5 on my Oceanic 72 bowfront. I use 1" tubing up to the 3/4 bulkhead. That goes back to the sump via a single 1" bulkhead that uses 1" tubing. I'm guessing it runs about 700-800gph. That's pushing it, but the tank can handle the flow just fine. I have about 1/4...
  8. Oceanic Reef Sumps

Marcosreef, I just built a sump/refugium combo, and created a webpage describing how I did it. Here's the link: http://home1.gte.net/res0hn3n Click on DIY Sump in the Menu. It really was not that hard, cost me about $100, and looks great. If you decide to take the plunge, I would also...
  9. Please Help me build my SUMP / how thk should it be...

Carl, No problem. Reefcentral has an incredble topic on working with acrylic. Lots of information. Look under the DIY section for Acrylic. Here's a link: http://reefcentral.com/vbulletin/showth ... adid=96763 One of the things Acrylicman says is to let the acrylic sit before adding water. He...
  10. Please Help me build my SUMP / how thk should it be...

rikacarl, I just built a sump/regufium combo. I used 3/8, and that's what I would recommend for you. It gives you more surface area to join. If you use the #3 I don't think it will have the same strength, and may come apart. I would have 1 big piece for the bottom. I put together a webpage...

  12. Float Valve Problem

ColdZero, I was worried about that, so I attached a styrafom (sp) block to the bottom using plastic wire ties. This gives it the extra pressure just in case.
  13. Innovative stand designs?

Sharkky, I have built a few stands/canopys and one of them I am very happy with. The canopy is a basic box like most are. However, there's a cut in the canopy about 5 inches back from the front. The cut runs lengthwise alog the tank. Then I attached it to the back part of the canopy with...
  14. Need a Home Depot with SouthDown In Stock

Thanks, I will give them a call in the morning. Maybe that's a better way to go. Can you guys post which HD you have bought SouthDown Sand at? If you happen to know they have it instock that would be great too. Thanks, Sam
  15. fiber optic cost

Here's a site: http://www.sbtdesigns.com/sbtfiber.html 150 Watt metal halide $699.00. Color or twinkle wheels are available for an additional fee. It might be worth it to get the "twinkle wheel" :D What I don't get is why do you have to buy a kit? This doesn't look like much more than a...
