  1. Speechless: www.majesticreefs.com

I don't feel it is too 'amazing' a claim to be able to place livestock in a tank after only 5 or 24 hours. A co-worker and friend had fish and coral in his 28g biocube less than 24 hrs after putting in live sand and well cured live rock, no losses (lps, coral beauty, and I think chromis). But...
  2. Are these hydroids?

Looks like baby aiptasia to me.
  3. 30g Cube restarted

Yep, I currently have: 1.1.1 Dendrobates lamasi 0.0.2 Dendrobates luecomelas but I have had auratus, ventrimaculatus, and RETF in the past. I also am starting a collection of pleurothallis, but right now I just have one (p. schweinfurthii)
  4. Losing color in my corals

Going by watt's per gallon is inaccurate, and saying that 150w metal halides is fine for a 75g is also inaccurate. Coral placement is very important when it comes to lighting, 150w is not enough if the corals are placed in a poor location, but plenty if they are on top of the rock in a better...
  5. sps help

Nah, I had sps color up while getting nipped. Probably is a nutrient issue w/ the new lights. Just give it some time, some corals color up the instant they are back in a stable environment, others can take months. Just skim wet and don't overfeed.
  6. 30g Cube restarted

Background: So, I have been residing in a series of small apartments, space was limited so I had to not set up this tank, it was left at my mothers, where it was eventually consolidated into a 120g. The tank was left empty for a while until I had a chance to keep an octopus, at that point I...
  7. I think I've got a Ctenophore...what do you think?

Since ctenophores are free swimming pelagic creatures, I would seriously question that guess. However, the 'tentacle' does remind most of a ctenophore. Have you tried removing it or looking more closely at its structure. If you see 'eye's', for example, it might be a flatworm...
  8. 30g Cube restarted

So, I am getting back in after a short hiatus. I leave the explaining for a later post... Tank: ~30g Acrylic custom cube (glasscages.com) 20x20x16 Stand: AGA 20"x10" stand (extended 20" w/ 2x4's) Sump: 10g (no baffles) Plumbing: single 1" overflow, 1/2" return with a dual lockline outlet...
  9. 48 ' Coralife 4x 65 watt enough to keep LPS

Sorry for the delay, have not been on to much. Just straight 150w halides, 3 total. Two 48" NO florescent actinics (40w) provided morning and evening viewing. The tank currently has 3x 150 SE iwasaki halides and the 48" bulbs have been replaced with 24" bulbs.
  10. tangs

Realistically you are going to have a very hard time killing any parasites with out some sort of quarentine period. You might be able to get away with a very aggressive treatment over a shorter period of time, only if the tang is very healthy and not too stressed out. However, I foresee at...
  11. Cycling Question

    Well, algae needs light!
  12. Vacation feeding question

You hear more horror stories about the 'pet sitter' than you hear about leaving a tank for a week or two. So make sure you trust any one you put in charge, and make sure they fully understand what to do.
  13. reborn newbie

Basically a sump is a place to put all your equipment so it will be out of the way. You plumb the tank so that a return pump takes water from the sump and pumps it into the main display. The display then has an overflow (called that because the water overflows into it) that returns the water...
  14. 48 ' Coralife 4x 65 watt enough to keep LPS

I have kept LPS under such lighting and depth, high on the rock work. Most of the corals survived, but did not really thrive, once I switched over to metal halide (150w) their growth easily tripled and the dieing ones perked back up.
  15. New Marineland Skimmer

Anyone seen the new marineland skimmer? My LFS has both sizes running on tanks and I am impressed (especially since marineland's last skimmer was the seaclone).
