  1. Valenti Puffer in a reef tank?

I'm cautiously thinking about adding a valenti puffer to a reef tank with anemone, SPS corals, clams, shrimp, crabs, etc. Has anyone done this, and do they consider them to be reef safe? I know they're really listed as questionable in this area, but wanted to get first-hand opinions. Thanks!
  2. Chiller Suggestions for a 1000 gallon reef system

Thanks for the response. Any thoughts on how you vent the heat? Can they be put outside?
  3. Chiller Suggestions for a 1000 gallon reef system

Hi, My chiller, which is water cooled and which I absolutely love, has now begun its process of final catastrophic failure. I've tried to have it fixed many a time, and what the fixes amount to are band-aids on the problem (put more coolant in, charge me a fortune), so I think it's time to...
  4. Who here has/did have deep tanks (28" or more)?

My tank is 36" tall x 48" wide x 96" long. 36" does make it more difficult to work on the bottom part of the tank, but that's what claws are for. Coral placement is the toughtest thing, but I think the few extra hours of effort pay off over the long run of viewing.
  5. PROPAGATED CORALS VS WILD

I like coral frags as well and go with them as much as possible for the following reasons: 1) it's more environmentally conscious 2) you know the coral has thrived in a tank, and so it's more likely to do so in yours (provided the provideds, etc.) 3) you can find exotic frags that are far...
  6. My home theater seems to be hurting my reef

As base is monaural, you can put a subwoofer anywhere in the room and it'll sound fine to people. As such, I'd say move the subwoofer away from the fish tank and you'll get your first big benefit.
  7. Holy Deflating Magnificent Anemone!

It's a heteractis magnifica. It's begun to reinflate today, which has me feeling a little better.
  8. Holy Deflating Magnificent Anemone!

I've had my magnificent anemone for about 6 months now, and before that, it was in another tank for several years. Yesterday I fed it some silversides. This morning it was fine, but this afternoon it deflated itself to essentially being flat. Its mouth is still closed, but it did disgorge...

You've set up a trust fund for your anemone because it will outlive you.
  10. Good Cyanobacteria Eater? Anyone?

Thanks--I've got those guys in there but my crew doesn't seem not too interested in spending time on the sand--they like the live rock and the acrylic.
  11. Acylic + Scratch = Sad

Terry, Thanks for sharing. In looking at the etr-inc website, my challenge with their wet sanders (aside from the standard magnetic ones) is that they expect to put the sander in the tank. While that will probably work for public aquarium tanks, guys like me who have a lot of acrylic to keep...
  12. Good Cyanobacteria Eater? Anyone?

My tank is doing well with the exception that cyanobacteria loves to grow on the sand bed, which varies from 1-3 inches in depth. My 3 sand sifting starfish, who I thought would great to help keep the sand bed clean, seem to do nothing but glom on top of one another. Other than water changes...
  13. Mixing Anthias--Any experience

Hi, I've got a school of 6 Bartlett's anthias right now, and I was thinking of adding a school of Purple Queen anthias. Has anyone done this, or mixed schools of anthias in their tank? It would look beautiful and the tank's big enough to handle them, but I'm curious to know if the new anthias...
  14. Acylic + Scratch = Sad

I have a 700 gallon acrylic tank with roughly 54 square feet of exposed acrylic, and it gets scratched all the time for one reason or another--it's just part of life of having acrylic. The only way to get them out is elbow grease, and you should also look at the magnets and sandpaper on...
  15. Is it Oxygen Saturation or Water Flow?

I've seen lots of information out there over the last few years about how you need to have really high water flow to grow SPS corals well due to the respiratory needs of the corals etc. Currently in my tank I only run 1 12 amp pump that pushes water lengthwise across my 8' long x 4' wide x 3'...
