  1. Blue Xenia or Waving Hand Xenia

My filtration is my circulation My filtration is a Prism Red Sea Skimmer A biowheel 125 and a Rena Canister P1 That provides quite a bit of water flow, in fact I put my Xenia behind some rocks to block some of the water flow I have never tested in the early morning, typically I test around 11am...
  2. Colony of green balls growing - Identification?

Yeah, two days latter I see more on other rocks I will remove them all. Thanks
  3. Blue Xenia or Waving Hand Xenia

I have 185 Watts of power on a 30G Red & Blue Mushrooms A Cabbage Coral A stick/tree polyp and Green Star Polyps The Stick Polyps are doing average as well. Everything else is growing great. See www.nietert.org click on photos then reef tank and you'll see the whole thing. Water quality, as...
  4. New Reef Tank Plan - What Do You Think?

Excellent to know, I still thought you needed something for the bacteria to feed on.
  5. Colony of green balls growing - Identification?

This is the best pic I could get, these are all about a 1-2 millimeter in diameter and just noticed them tonight. Can any one identify these? This is the only spot in the tank I found them and the total size of the "colony" is less than a half inch in length
  6. The Definitive List of Protein Skimmers - updated 23/NOV/10

manufacturer: Red Sea www.Redseafish.com model: Prizm Delux type: Venturi Pump: Included with skimmer tank size: 30 gallon notes: Adjust it every two-three days for it to do it's job correctly. Do what the manual states, except and this is verified by Red Sea support as well, don't put the...
  7. TROUBLE with Phosphates need help.

I just noticed your tank specs, a 10G sump & refugium! How do you have any problems? I have a 30G I just turned into a Reef two weeks ago and plan on adding a refugium and sump - as well. How has this setup worked for you and for how long? Can you give me more info on the Sump and Refugium...
  8. TROUBLE with Phosphates need help.

One more thing, The water change seems to be the preferred method by experienced aquarist. If it is high, and .1 is pretty high, I have been told up to a 50% water change immediately. Hope your tank isn't to big!
  9. TROUBLE with Phosphates need help.

For high phosphate I am told to do three things: 1. Water change - biggest key 2. Replace filter media immediately, then weekly thereafter 3. Use a product like phosban media in your filtration Phosban media can take up to two weeks to filter out all the phosphate. If the problem is really bad...
  10. Blue Xenia or Waving Hand Xenia

Mine seems to go from healthy to losing some of its colony from day to day. This rock was twice as full two weeks ago. For the last 4 days it was doing great, then today it started dying off again. Once a week I put in 1 drop of Iodine, and the rest of the corals are growing quite well. See...
  11. New Reef Tank Plan - What Do You Think?

And it looks great When a tank looks this good it is easy to overlook the plumbing. But this tank I would guess has more than 3K invested in it. Maybe not though.
  12. New Reef Tank Plan - What Do You Think?

That's a great idea. I haven't seen it but if you can't you should use some Plexiglass and Silcon to make your own. But that would be a lot of work, drilling the hole for water flow - but if your a DIY, that would help the look greatly.
  13. New Reef Tank Plan - What Do You Think?

Reef ready simply means that a hole is cut in the bottom of the tank for use with a sump, wet/dry filter, refugium. Since water can exit that way, you have access to all filtration underneath the tank. The heater can be under the tank as well. My 30 Gallon has the Protient Skimmer, the...
  14. another bio wheel question

I have two Bio Wheel 125's. Both going for right at two years now. I have never had a nitrate problem at all - ZERO every time I measure and I have 3" of live sand and about 20-25lbs of live rock. I used biowheel on my fresh waters several years ago and again, never had a problem with...
  15. New Reef Tank Plan - What Do You Think?

Phase 1: Sounds Good. 50Lbs fits neatly between the 1-1.75lbs per gallon. Water Conditioner? I would double check this as many will make your skimmer skim constantly. I did the same with tap water for the first six months of my tank. I used the Yellow Bottled stuff, forgot what is was...
