  1. 90g decisions: skimmer, pump

Thanks for the replies so far. Any opinions on the AquaC EV series vs. ASM?
  2. 90g decisions: skimmer, pump

I’m upgrading to a 90g AGA with the Megaflow overflow kit. AGA says the Megaflow is rated for “up to 600 gph”, but what is a typical actual flow rate? What (max) return pump flow rate is a good match? Also, I’m debating between the AquaC Urchin Pro and EV-120 – any thoughts? I’ll have 100+...
  3. Megaflow setup

I'm in the planning stages of upgrading from a 75 gal non-drilled to a 90 gal AGA with the Megaflow. I'd like to have it draining into a 29 gal sump/refugium combination. I'm planning to use a MAG7, so the flow rate will be 450-500 gph, however, I've read that the refugium should only get 2-3X...
  4. Coolest looking, most under rated fish?

My vote is for the Four-line Wrasse - green, blue, and purple with red eyes and a very cool dorsal fin. Can't find that combination in many places!
  5. refugium flow, overflow options

I'd like to add a refugium to my non-drilled 75. I'm considering a) using an overflow such as CPR CS series, or b) upgrading to AGA (possibly 90 gal) with a Megaflow. Thoughts on these options? Also, I've read in many places that flow through the refugium should not be very fast (2-3 times...
  6. Last attempt at saving my tank

Rob, I'm in similar situation. My feeding/maintenance habits are similar to yours, and I've been fighting hair algae for the past several months. I've added lights, powerheads, hermits, snails, Emeralds, Sea Hare, reduced feedings, RO/DI, PhosReactor, and even replaced a lot of algae-covered...
  7. yellow coris wrasses?

I too endorse H. chyrus. Mine is full-grown now and is a great fish. Very hardy (essentially untouched by a velvet/ich outbreak in my tank about 2 years ago) and doesn't bother any fish or corals in my tank. I recently added a 4-line wrasse which is about half the size of the H. chyrus, and...
  8. recommend low phosphate/nitrate frozen foods?

Anyone have any recommendations of frozen food brands with low phosphate and nitrates? I am fighting a hair algae outbreak and in looking for possible sources of nutrients, just tested a sample of water before and after soaking frozen mysis in it. Before soaking, PO4 < .05, after soaking, PO4...
  9. Live rock mail order?

Try premiumaquatics.com I buy all my live and dry goods online from them. They have great live rock, and they'll pick out the sizes/shapes that you want.
  10. retro light kit for AGA canopy

Does anyone know if the Coralife 48" PC retro light kit (4x65W) will fit into a All Glass Aquarium Modern Oak canopy (75 gal)? Any other suggestions? I'm just looking for a 10K/Actinic dual-switchable setup for dawn/dusk options. Thanks.
  11. Help...gramma with eye problem

Yes, likely an injury, and you can treat (in your main tank) with Epson salts (I think 1 tsp per 5 gal is recommended at webwetmedia.com). I used this treatment for a wrasse and it cleared up within a couple days.
  12. Quiet Skimmer Needed!

I had the same requirements when I was deciding on a HOT skimmer, and I went with the BakPak. I read a side-by-side comparision between the CPR BakPak and AquaC Remora, and the BakPak was said to be a little quieter. I've been pretty happy with the CPR. Most of its noise comes from the air...

  14. RO systems

I'm considering installing an under-counter RO system in my kitchen. Does anyone know how RO systems from Home Depot, etc. compare to those sold for aquariums (Kent, Seachem, etc). Do the under-counter systems produce aquarium-quality water? Or better? Thanks.
  15. Cant get rid of it!!! Please help

I recommend a Queen or Fighting Conch. They both eat cyano. I had two persistent patches of cyano in my 75 until I added a small (1.5") Queen Conch -- it went through them like a little vacuum cleaner! The cyano has not come back, and the now conch eats other algae/detritus off the substrate...
