I bought a Lawnmower Blenny but he never took to eating hair algae so it must be the luck of the draw - now I have a very thin Blenny I'm trying to get to eat and have reduced the hair algea by bringing Phosphate levels down to near zero with Rowaphos in a cannister filter.
I bought a similar leather about a week ago and have found by trial and error that it likes only gentle flow and is fully open/extended quite near the bottom of my tank under 4 x T5 lights so I don't think it needs very bright light.
I would experiment with a few different positions with...
I bought an Algae/Lawnmower Blenny (Salarias Fasciatus I think) about 4 weeks ago in the hope that he would help by eating the hair algea in my tank.
He never really took to the task and has always been the very shy.
Moved the rocks around today and he has become much more outgoing but looks...
No I think its a filter feeder taking in water at one end an expelling at the other. It doesn't seem to move around - just open and close its 'mouths' from time to time.
Thanks - I think you're right about the yellow 'eggs' being tunicates. Can the pink thing be laying them or is it a completely unconnected?
Another pic of the pink 'thing' with its tube open at both ends.
Can anyone tell me what these are please, the 'eggs' are about the size of a grain of rice the pink thing has a roundish body 3/4 inch diameter with a tube structure that it can open at both ends. Found when turning over a piece of live rock.
Hi David,
Sounds like your LFS is more interested in making money than giving good advice. (I think this is a pretty common problem.)
To sell you a Tang when your tank is so new is pretty cynical IMO.
Trust advice from people who aren't making money out of you!
Best of luck anyway.
Hi Dave,
You might want to try Cyclopeeze - I had a similar problem with small Clowns and they took to this better than other foods I tried.

Hi David,
I would go for the skimmer that removes the most coffee-coloured gunk - if that's the Deltec (which you say is also the easiest to adjust) then you win both ways.
It's unlikely you'll need to run both skimmers at the same time although it wouldn't hurt, it would just be an extra...
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the pic. I have read that its important to get as much circulation around and between the live rock as possible i.e try to get an open lattice rather than a 'pile.'
From the angle of the pic I can't see any gaps and hence my comment.
Please remember I am new to this as...
Sorry - can't see the pic.
Looks nearly cycled but wait until Nitrite = 0
Your Nitrate looks very high - I'd check again with another test kit to confirm (I had a faulty one) and if it is that high look to do some water changes to bring it down to around 20ppm or lower if possible before...
The article below highlights some of the difficulties in acclimatizing snails and my well shed light on this problem.

Hi
Looks good - just one suggestion - from the camera angle you have used the live rock looks closely stacked & from what I have read I believe it would benefit from a more open layout to allow better circulation around and through it you also would have more fish hiding places.
I have a Fluval...
Ditto to the above - I'm working on the possibility that it may be related to dissoved oxygen so I'm investing in more powerful pumps to turn over 10x the volume of the tank per hour and increased aeration (already have a venturi skimmer.) Could be barking up the wrong tree but I'm sick of...
