  1. Bubble Algae Question

It is not a myth at all, these algae do contain "spores" but if you want to use these for propagation, you have to pop the bubble when it is "ripe"and make sure that nothing will eat these spores in your tanks after their release. I have popped one bubble in a bucket of seawater, and several...
  2. Oh no is this a pyramid?

These snails look very much like the nasty pyramidelids, but I gues they can not be the real thing because of the quantity you took from your clams. Only 4-5 pyramidelids will kill a big clam easily. The real pyramidelids will stay at the base (hinge) of the clam during the day, and will come...
  3. Crocea Clam Rescue

This clam is very healthy and not really gaping anymore, just extending its mantle to the maximum, for capturing more light for it's zooxanthellae. Notice the discoloration between the intake and the siphon, this is a very clear sign it has spawned recently and that it was not captive farmed...
  4. Crocea Clam Rescue

All those 4" croceas have most probably spawned after arrival at the shop and are dying from the stress. 4" Croceas are definitely not farmed as they would have to be at least 10 years old, and nobody would keep clams that long! These clams are likely wild caught from the Philippines and it was...
  5. Lava rock in a reef tank?

the real volcanic lava rock, no problems in reef tanks, used tons of it as rubble in 17 frag tanks for 5 years
  6. My first meltdown

This is normal because at night the photosynthesis is reversed and all algae including zooxanthella are using Oxygen and produce CO2, so if circulation is stopped you will have a serious depletion of oxygen in the early morning hours leading to your meltdown, A lot of animals you can't see have...
  7. Nova: Deep Sea Invasion

TheAquqriumofMonaco was accused of this accident, and Dr Jaubert is in charge of "cleaning" up this mess, but as he told me himself that there was no need forany intervention I can not force him to do anything that no government has asked for. As for the Australian team in charge of the...
  8. How long 'til all the reefs are gone?

Pure Crap, look at my reply to this in post below"Nova, deep sea invasion" For all hobbyists who have never been on a real reef, Caulerpa taxifolia has been growing naturally on the Great Bariier Reef for probably as lomg as the reef has existed and will never be any threat to any reef ever...
  9. Nova: Deep Sea Invasion

This is pure crap and even here in Australia THE MEDIA is making a big deal out of Taxifolia "invasion",but it is real nonsense because when I saw this on TV some months ago I immediately contacted Dr Jaubert of the Museum of Monaco to offer him a natural way of eradicating this caulerpa, and he...
  10. Weekly Discussion - Getting rid of reef pests?

I had very good results with Chromis and Orange tail Bue Damsel, but I guess from this that any damsel will pick up the taste for flatworms if shown and given the opportunity. I had tried many different ways before but never as easy and as successfull as this one, Some people don't like damsels...
  11. Weekly Discussion - Getting rid of reef pests?

When I farmed mushrooms I had flatworms in several boxes and also caulerpa which became a pest. I then took out caulerpa loaded with flatworms and was feeding it to my tangs. The flatworms were floating everywhere and that's how the damsels started to eat them, later they were picking them off...
  12. Weekly Discussion - Getting rid of reef pests?

Why nuke a tank when the introduction of any kind of damsels (chromis,OTB, Clowns etc) will get rid of all the flatworms in no time. I's easy, super effective and a bunch of Chromis look good in any tank, but I guess some people always like to do it the hard way.
  13. Dr. of Death.... mushrooms

brushing them will not make them release, it will make them shrink to the point of dissappearing, but they do it slowly without any pollution
  14. Dr. of Death.... mushrooms

the easiest way to remove them is to brush them with a baby-botle brush, repeat 2 or 3 times and after about 10 days they will be gone forever.
  15. Clam Bleaching

add iron chelate, you can get this from stores selling fertilisers or hydroponic stuff., and please don't delay.
