If the ABS hood are plastic made I recomend to not used it. I placed a plastic hood near a 250w halide and you have to see the hold the halide made on this hood and near was 8", what you think the halide bulb inside the hood.

I used IceCap 250w ellectronic ballast on my 2 HQI 10k D/E Ushios and another two on two Coralvue 20k and they work very fine to me.

When i do water changes my snails and Starfishes use to do the same.
