  1. LED lighting

At nano-reef.com (I'm sorry if this isn't allowed) they have several threads to people who have DIY'd LED setups.
  2. NanoCube questions

Weekly water changes are good for nano tanks in general. Smaller tanks have parameters shifts at a much faster rate. The severity of these shifts can be greatly minimized by frequent and regular water changes of 10% or greater.
  3. NanoCube questions

I own a Nano Cube 24DX. 1. The color change could be due to the difference lighting more so than anything else. Going from MH to PC could cause a color change from the lose or gain of zooanthellae. 2. The surface skimmer is worth the money. It does a great job of keeping the surface water...
  4. Can I Paint The Back Of My Aquarium?

Krylon Fusion spray paint works the best. It provides a molecular bond which will prevent leeching. I've used it in my tanks on PVC piping and have yet to have a problem. I HIGHLY recommend using this for painting your tank.
  5. What grain size sand are you using?

I use a sugar-sized play sand. I bought a 40lb. bag for all of my tanks and it works out well. With one of my past 10 gal. tanks I used a mixture of crushed coral and sugar-sized sand. I figured it to be a 1:4 lb. ratio. This ratio worked out very well for preventing dust clouds due to my Hydor...
  6. Do i need special lighting if....

How big is the tank going to be? A pair of true percula clownfish in a 10 gal. is a bit of a no-go if you ask me. Their disproportional bio-load could have adverse side effects. As for the question at hand. Normal output (NO) lighting is fine. I would probably invest in a 80Watts+ hood however...
  7. What glue should I use to stack live rock. cave pillar etc.

A two-part epoxy is just like it sounds. You mix both parts and apply. I've found they don't work well unless you can apply significant and constant pressure, hence why I use super glue. However, I only work in nano reefs. I have a 10 Gal. and a 24 Gal. Nano Cube. So for my purposes I will...
  8. PFO vs. Lumen Arc

Well I'm glad to hear that there's a noticeable difference. I'll be looking forward to seeing your one year photos.
  9. Alkalinity question

I agree with the above post. Consistency is key in maintaining a health, thriving system. Also, I rarely have a Ca level above 375 and my tank has been doing very well for the past year and a half. I'm not saying it is the best for it, but if there are no signs of stress and you're getting good...
  10. What glue should I use to stack live rock. cave pillar etc.

Any super glue will work. S'long as it's a cyanoacrylate-based gel you'll be fine. I use Loctite super glue gel for most of the modifications to my live rock and coral mounting.
  11. PFO vs. Lumen Arc

Wow, those are massive. Definitely post a before/after shot. I'd like to see the difference it makes.
  12. Hot Tips: What camera do you use to photograph your tank?

I use a Nikon D50 w/ a 55-200mm f4-5.6 Nikkor lens. I've been looking into upgrading the lens to something better, but I don't know much about lenses so I've reserved myself to my 55-200mm.
