  1. Revisiting LEDs (5mm 20mA)

Thanks for the replies. I don't mind soldering 200 LEDs. I've already created a test grid of 16 blue and white LEDs on a small perfboard, and the output, while very focused, is very bright. If I regulate voltage to 15V, I can create chains of 4 LEDs with an 82 Ohm resistor on each "chain"...
  2. Revisiting LEDs (5mm 20mA)

I've been searching various reef forums for a while now, and it seems like all of the experiments with regular LEDs has stopped, and everybody is moving to 3W or 5W LEDs. Has anyone continued experiments with normal LEDs? Standard 3.4V 5mm LEDs can now put out 18000mcd or more. Has anyone...
  3. Setting Up New Freshwater Tank - Need Water Advice

Thanks beaslbob. I've done some research on Jellybean Parrot fish online, and it looks like they will not harm plants - seems like they don't have any preference as to plants or no plants. What kind of substrate do they need to get if I tell them to go with live plants?
  4. Setting Up New Freshwater Tank - Need Water Advice

Several years ago, I was pretty heavy into reef aquariums. But I've been out of it for a while and don't remember too much. Anyway, a buddy of mine is setting up a new freshwater tank with Jellybean Parrot fish, and really likes live plants. He's been getting advice from the guy at the LFS...
  5. 400W HQI bulbs

Is this still true, or are there double ended 400W Bulbs available?
  6. Anybody Use Protection? (in case of tank failure)

I have been out of the hobby for about a year, but recently got the itch to set up my aquariums again, and have been trying to catch up with this board again (only the names have changed). Anyway, now I live in a third floor apartment. I'm a little worried about a tank failure or some other...

  8. what FISH did u use 2 cycle?

I once used black mollies. But they were so happy in the salt water that they just kept having babies, and pretty soon I had 30 or 40 black mollies. But really, I don't think you should use live fish to cycle, since it can be done without.
  9. Quiet sump - how?

davelin315 - What's the quietest/best way to vent the drainpipe? I am planning to have my return under the surface of the water in the sump, but don't know the best way. I am planning on having the return come from the back of a drilled tank. Thanks Scott [ August 22, 2001: Message edited...
