Anyone have any success at getting a captive breed bubble tip anemone to regain its bubbles once lost??
I have mine in a 40 breeder with 2 - 250 Watt Metal halides 2-55W PC
I am also feeding the anemone one cube of frozen a day.
The tank has 900 gph flow.
I have had it for 2 weeks.
I picked up some SYLVANIA SA100 Lamp light timers for $4.99 a piece. They have the attached buttons and can be set every 15 minutes. I have two 900 maxi-jets facing each other, one the left and one on the right. I plugged the pumps into the light timers and and set them 7.5 minutes apart. So...
I am setting up a 40 gallon breeder. I have an old neptune controller (15 years old) that still works. I love it except for the noisy switching on the x-10 modules. One of the major goals of my new tank is to be extremely quiet and have low energy consumption.
I have read about neptunes...
sfsuphysics,
I will have two top-off electronic float valves. They will be at slightly different heights. One will add water to the tank from a freshwater top-off for evaporation. The other will add saltwater when the main pump restarts after being shut down and draining the waste water...
Below are images of my final DIY tank design. I have been designing it while waiting to purchase it for 6 months. The tank is be a 40 gallon breeder with custom filtration and refugium in the back. I will be primarily keeping sps corals. Water will overflow from the tank into a berlin sock, and...
A friend of mine has been to tanks in Europe where they are being used. It apparently works with great succes. He is in the process of building his own diy model.
Marillion,
I have heard rumors of a filter that combines a denitrator and calcium reactor in one. I think it uses the low pH water from a denitrator to disolve araginite.

My first choice in a sps tank would be clown gobies. They are colorful, small, and best of all they will perch among the branches of your sps. Bringing enjoyment and food for the corals.
Righty,
I am sure the hammerhead was a closed loop pump. The tank also had a return pump that must be causing all the bubbles. I also thought there was a process were powerful pumps could cause air bubbles (I think the name is cavitation maybe) even in a closed loop.
Bleeding Thought,
The...
I agree with the use of Seio, Tunze, or Ecotech Vortechs on larger tanks. I was just using maxijets to crunch the numbers. The electricity savings would be even greater and less heat added.
The way I do my powerheads, even if there were 17 they would vitually all not be visiable. Less...
I know this is usually a matter of preference but I visited a large tank with a closed loop system and decided to compare it with a powerhead system. The tank was 550 gallons with a closed loop Sequence Hammerhead pump. This flow rate after head pressure calculation was about 4,000 gph. There...
